Did you download ‘World of Warcraft’? Check out its new features

Gone are the days of “Leeroy Jenkins” & “50 DKP minus” in the mainstay MMORPG, World of Warcraft. There are new expansions and WoW Boosting Services in town with some new features that might make you want to shake the dust off your Blizzard account and download the game again.

World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, “Shadowlands”, dropped last fall with some new features, a giant level squish, and a completely new type of dungeon. Today, Blizzard is doing a server-wide update to World of Warcraft, implementing a new addition to its Torghast dungeon: Twisting Corridors. Thus, if you haven’t logged into the game yet today, you will be in for a pleasant surprise when you do.

So what’s the tea on the Twisting Corridors? Let’s dive into World of Warcraft’s latest upload.

Lore

After you download, or downloaded, the latest expansion of World of Warcraft onto your PC, your character is called away from wherever you were questing to Stormwind or Ogrimmar, depending on what faction you fight for. Turns out, Sylvanas Windrunner, the former warchief of The Horde, has partnered with some mysterious winged people and whisked away Azeroth’s bravest leaders, including king Anduin Wrynn.

You must travel to Icecrown Citadel and complete a ritual that transports you to The Maw, a realm where the foulest, most irredeemable souls go after they die for eternal damnation & torment. The realm’s leader, the Jailer, traps these souls in this realm, where he was also imprisoned after trying to destroy the universe. Now, he’s partnered with Sylvanas to escape his prison, threatening all souls & afterlives in the process.

The Jailer keeps his most prized souls in Torghast, a castle where he personally drains the souls of those he takes a special interest in. Right now, these souls include Azeroth’s fierce leaders, and you, after finishing the main questline, have to delve into Torghast to rescue them, earning yourself the moniker “Maw Walker” in the process.

What’s so special about Torghast?

Torghast is unlike most dungeon or raid zones World of Warcraft has ever released, and once you download the new expansion, you’ll see why. Like the Mage Tower in “Legion”, you can fly solo here (without being ridiculously overpowered.) However, unlike Mage Tower, Torghast is repeatable, and if you bring friends, they don’t have to fill the usual combat roles. You can go in with five DPS players or three tanks, doesn’t matter!

Dungeons are meant to be traversed by five people: a tank, a healer, and three DPS or damage players. The tank draws the ire of the baddies and can withstand tons of damage (or gets blamed for not holding aggro when the hunter’s pet pulls everything). The healer heals people (or gets blamed for not healing fast enough when the group wipes), and the DPS does damage and moves out of the way when the floor does damage!

Flying solo vs. grouping up

Since you can fly solo, you don’t have to wait for four of your buddies to log in to hop in. Nor do you have to queue for a random five-player group. The latter can be frustrating since you will either wait forever for a spot if you’re DPS or you can get stuck with a rotten group consisting of trolls, noobs who don’t know what they’re doing, or players who will wipe five billion times, wasting your precious time getting loot.

After all, that’s what dungeons are for: grabbing loot, especially legendaries, that you can show off to your friends and help you beat enemies faster, or make gameplay easier.

Blizzard also has a new way of stacking enemies so if you go into Torghast in a group, the enemies will be boosted in power and harder for individual players to kill (pro tip: bring a healer & tank with you, or lots & lots of potions).

Twisting Corridors risks & rewards

Normal Torghast runs are six floors. Twisting Corridors consists of eighteen floors, which is three typical Torghast runs stacked on top of each other. Every three floors, there’s a vendor in case you run out of healing potions or need to repair your gear.

Reportedly, someone with a high gear score just completed a Layer 1 and it took them two hours! So get your bathroom breaks in before you delve into the new zone! Unfortunately, if you just downloaded World of Warcraft’s new expansion, you can’t just jump into Toghast or Twisted Corridors. Each layer is handed to you in a weekly quest, so you’re going to be playing a long time to get through each layer.

In addition to the eighteen floors, there are eight layers, or eight versions in the new World of Warcraft download. While that seems like a lot of time & weekends spent holding your pee as you grind through the layers, it’s hardly for nothing.

Icyveins, the site many World of Warcraft players use to tweak their talents & rotations after a new expansion download, released Blizzard’s description of Twisting Corridors. Every two layers, you get a cosmetic toy or upgrade, starting with the battle companion Death Seeker. “What horrors these eyes have seen in the tower of Torghast, with their unsleeping, unblinking gaze” is the only description Blizzard gives for this reward.

However, there’s a grand prize, available after grinding through all eight layers, eighteen floors each. You may have noticed once you downloaded the new World of Warcraft expansion, you can’t summon your mount in The Maw. Welp, if you complete all eight layers of Twisting Corridors, you get a special mount, the Corridor Creeper. You can summon in this zone, making traversing The Maw a whole lot easier!
