Julianne Moore’s skincare routine: How to look flawless at any age

Since 1985, Julianne Moore’s face has graced our movie & television screens. While a Hollywood beauty routine may seem out of reach for the rest of us, Moore, 60, has been very vocal about how she achieves radiant skin. Surprise! Many of her methods are  pretty affordable. Here are some of the most important & attainable takeaways from Julianne Moore’s beauty routine

SPF

Julianne Moore may have starred in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, but the actress knows the sun is the real killer. Sunblock has been a regular part of her morning skin regimen since she was twenty-three. She’s not picky about the brand either. She uses “whatever I can get in a drugstore”, she told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live.

One sun-protecting product Julianne Moore likes is L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Anti-Sagging + Even Tone Moisturizer. If you have a moisturizer you like with sunscreen in it, it’s very easy to get your SPF, even if it has an SPF 15. If you’re at the beach, that’s probably not enough. But in the city all day long, that’s good.

Hollywood may be obsessed with a tan, but Julianne Moore isn’t. Besides protecting her skin with sunblock, the actress also makes sure to stay in the shade. So much so, her shady habit has lowered her sun tolerance. “You get used to [being in the shade], and then you can’t stand to be in the sun. I can’t even take the light because of my eyes.”

Eating outside is also a no-no. “You’re baking in the sun. Plus in New York, the cars are driving by and all the dirt flies into your food. I’m that person who is like, I want a table inside. But you know what, you can always find one!” Moore told The Cut.

H20

One drink you can be sure to find at most of Julianne Moore’s meals is water. “Everyone says it, but I drink a lot of water. I also can really tell the next day when I eat too much sodium so I try to avoid it.” she told New Beauty

She went on to mention she adds one tablespoon of Chlorophyll in her glass of water in the morning. “I’m still not totally sure what it is or what it does but I think it is working for me.” Though researchers are mixed on what exact benefits liquid chlorophyll has, reduced inflammation, odor elimination, clearer skin, and other detox benefits have been reported.

Skip the sodium

For Julianne Moore, less sodium means more radiant skin. To avoid puffiness before award shows or big events, Moore will skip foods with a high salt content. That may mean skipping a sushi date with her husband.

“My husband loves to have sushi in L.A. because it’s so good out there. But if I’m there for an awards show or something, I’m like, ‘No, I’m not doing it the night before the Golden Globes. My face will be puffy,” the Oscar-winning actress told The Cut

Nightly routine

Starting & ending her day with her skin in mind what keeps Julianne Moore looking fabulous at her age. It’s no wonder she is a spokesperson for L’Oréal.

After scrubbing her face with “very buff washcloths,” Julianne Moore will “put on some eye cream, moisturizer, and put my retainer in and go to bed. I’ve heard a lot of people say, “I’m supposed to wear my retainer forever?” Yes, I have worn it every single night. And the times I haven’t, I was sorry.”

Knowing what works best for you

It may not be the easiest thing to hear, but some products and methods may not work for your skin. Julianne Moore knows that. “Alpha hydroxy acids work really well with my skin—but I have to stay away from retinoids; they are too powerful for me.”

The Big Lebowski star also likes to try new products to see what will work for her. For example, she knows face oils work really well for her skin, but she switches up which ones she uses. “Face oils! I love them and I switch around what I use: L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil, L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Golden Serum, Sunday Riley face oil and Rodin face oil.”

When in doubt, Moore will get a professional facial to keep her skin in check. “I tend to do my own thing when it comes to my skin but I do go to Joanna Vargas in New York when I need a good facial. I’m not very good at going regularly though; I have a bad habit of buying a package and they actually have to call me to remind me to use them!”
