Is Selena Gomez okay? Why her Instagram Live is worrying fans

If there’s a badass warrior princess in the pop world, it’s Selena Gomez. It’s never easy battling health scares, but if there are multiple health issues competing for your attention, energy, and resources, it’s even harder. Fans of Selena know fairly well that the 28-year-old pop sensation has had her fair share of struggles with her physical & mental health.

Back in 2015, Selena was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that’s very hard to live with. In layperson terms, your body’s immune system attacks your own tissues and organs. Like many chronic illnesses, it also results in periodic inflammation, fatigue, pain, among other symptoms. Often, such illnesses also lead to other complications.

Gomez has been very vocal about her battle with the disease that usually affects organs like the kidneys, heart, and lungs. Later on, in 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant as a result of the disease. News had surfaced when she opened up to her legions of fans about the surgery that was made possible with the help of her friend, actress Francia Raisa.

Finding her voice

Her own lived experience made her an activist pushing for more resources on the research around the disease. At a gala organized by Lupus Research Alliance, she was quoted as saying, “I’d like to see the day when all young women can realize their dreams of a life without lupus.” On social media, she proudly wore her kidney transplant scar, which she later revealed was a way for her to own it.

She mentioned, “When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar. I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up. Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through….and I’m proud of that.”

The singer truly found her voice through her open conversation on her struggles & how all of this impacted her mental health, too. She opened up about her bipolar disorder & anxiety.

Spotted with . . . concern

In a recent Instagram live session in October, Gomez was joined by her friend Timothée Chalamet. Fans were quick to notice that the singer had medical support latched to her. More specifically, fans could see what looked like an IV tube in Gomez’s arm. Soon enough, social media was ablaze with the screengrabs & fans’ concerns.

One fan pointed out how this could be the reason Gomez could not vote in person this year, as she’d previously pointed out, “it’s the fact that Selena said she wanted to vote in person and couldn’t “for certain reasons” and then we see she’s being medicated for lupus in her room ” Other fans showed genuine concern and sent prayers, “praying for selena’s health and i really hope she’s doing well. i cant imagine what it is like to live with such a terrible autoimmune disease. sending you so much love and hugs.”

Gomez had previously mentioned that the kidney transplant had helped alleviate her lupus, and that it’s unlikely to return, “My lupus —there’s about a 3 to 5 % chance it’ll ever come back. My blood pressure is better. My energy, my life has been better.”

Nothing to worry about

According to TMZ, it’s not an IV drip, but rather a vitamin drip that the fans have caught. If it’s unrelated to her previous issues, it’s a good thing.

In fact, the fact of her well-being is corroborated by her recent dinner date. She was spotted a couple of days after her live session at Nobu restaurant in Malibu, having dinner with some friends.
