See Bryan Cranston lose it next month in ‘Wakefield’

Do you have a huge Bryan Cranston gap in your life since Breaking Bad came to an end? We know we do. In May, his new movie Wakefield hits theaters – and it’s a doozy.

After a few great festival screenings (Toronto International Film Festival & Telluride Film Festival in 2016), IFC Films secured the rights to Wakefield for US distribution.

Directed and adapted by Robin Swicord from the work of E. L. Doctorow, Wakefield follows the life of Howard Wakefield (Bryan Cranston), who goes into hiding in his garage attic from where he observes the everyday lives of his wife (Jennifer Garner) and children.

The film is described as a “provocative look at what it means to walk away from it all,” highlighting mental health issues, as Howard’s self-imposed isolation stretches into months, and ultimately poses the question: can Howard ever return to his previous life?

Jason O’Mara (Resident Evil: Extinction), Beverly D’Angelo (American History X) and Pippa Bennett-Warner (Hulu’s Harlots) star alongside Cranston and Garner.

Robin Swicord is an American screenwriter and director, best known for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. She was nominated for an Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Writing and Best Screenplay, respectively.

Owned and operated by AMC Networks, IFC Entertainment was established in 2000 with a single vision: to bring the best of independent and foreign films to the largest possible audience. It is comprised of three separate labels including IFC Films, Sundance Selects and IFC Midnight.

Recent acquisitions by IFC Films include From the Land of the Moon, based on the international best-selling novel, and The Unknown Girl from Jean-Pierre Dardenne and Luc Dardenne (known for Rosetta and L’enfant).

Wakefield is scheduled for theatrical release on May 19, 2017, ahead of video-on-demand on May 26. Watch the first trailer for Wakefield here.
