All the celebrity deaths we cried about already this year

Cue your favorite break-up song and dim the lights, because it’s time to remember those special lives we’ve lost early in 2021. Man, celebrity deaths suck.

On a serious note, while most of us are beyond thrilled to be removed from the disastrous year that was 2020, hoping for brighter horizons in 2021, this new year has already come with some sad news. We’ve lost some true titans in the entertainment industry, legends who found a way to make us smile even while we were in the most darkest of places. They gave us so much, and now it’s time to give something back.

Here are some of the top celebrity deaths in 2021, as we take the time to reflect on some of their most celebrated work and what they gave to the entertainment industry.

Christopher Plummer

The label of “true Hollywood icon” fits perfectly onto the resume of Christopher Plummer, who sadly passed away on February 5th, 2021, at the age of ninety-one. The cause of death is believed to be a blow to his head, due to a fall.

Plummer, who made his acting debut in 1948, first caught audiences’ attention with 1964’s The Fall of the Roman Empire. However, most fans note his breakout role to be that of Captain Von Trapp in 1965’s The Sound of Music

Plummer would go on to have an impressive career spanning decades, making appearances in popular films such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Knives Out, National Treasure, & 12 Monkeys.

Larry King

No longer will Larry King be accepting calls, as this T.V. & radio host tragically passed away on January 23rd, 2021, due to sepsis from COVID-19 related issues.

The 1978 The Larry King Show gave us a glimpse at King’s talents, which was followed by Larry King Live in 1985, which saw the host discuss today’s hot topics with celebrities and top stakeholders. King understood the art of the interview, capable of asking the tough questions without coming across as demanding or aggressive.

Larry King was gifted at establishing an immediate connection not just with his guests, but also with his audience, which is why he’s one of the celebrity deaths that hit hardest.

Mary Wilson

Mary Wilson, a talented singer who is best known for launching the musical group The Supremes, passed away on February 8th, 2021, at the age of seventy-six. It is assumed that Wilson passed away from high blood pressure due to artery blockages.

Mary Wilson gave the world some of the greatest music during the 1960s & 1970s, including songs such as “Back in My Arms Again”, “River Deep/Mountain High”, “Floy Joy”, & “Stoned Love”.

The music world lost a true gem in Mary Wilson, who was planning on making even more music, having announced so on her YouTube just days before her tragic passing.

SOPHIE (Sophie Zeon)

The thirty-four year old Grammy-nominated artist suddenly passed away on January 30th, 2021, after a “sudden accident” due to a fall that took place in Greece.

SOPHIE, a transgender artist, provided music to fans that were as inspirational as her overall message to the LGBTQ+ community, highlighted with the themes of acceptance & being true to yourself.

Cicely Tyson

Ninety-six year old Cecily Tyson died on January 28th, 2021, due to natural causes.

This Hollywood Icon started her trailblazing career as a model for Ebony magazine. From there, Cicely Tyson went on to become an actress, most memorably appearing in the 1972 film Sounder, in which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
