Bored to death in quarantine? Here’s every way to get free Netflix

COVID-19 took the world by storm. Because of this pandemic, a majority of folks are stuck at home for the time being. Unfortunately, unemployment is at an all-time high in the United States, meaning many don’t have the extra cash to pay $15.99/month for Netflix.

Rather than sitting at home bored, there are a few different ways to get a free Netflix subscription in order to bingewatch all your favorite movies & TV shows.

Free-trial-hopping

If you’ve been on the internet for a while, odds are you have multiple email accounts. It’s finally time to put those old spam-ridden email addresses to use.

It’s a well-known fact that Netflix offers free month-long trials for its streaming service. The downside is you’ll need multiple emails & payment methods.

In the good old days, all you would need were a few throwaway email addresses and you could have an unlimited amount of free trials. Now, Netflix has limited this method by restricting one free trial per payment method.

This might not be a problem for some people with multiple credit cards, bank accounts, and maybe even a PayPal account. But to most, it’ll limit your free trials significantly.

A great workaround is to create multiple PayPal accounts to use on new trials. But at that point, the hassle might not be worth it for some.

Password-sharing

Although this might not make the subscription-free, it could help cut the price in half or less. By splitting the price with your roommate, siblings, parents, significant other, or even just a friend, you could both save a large sum of money. There’s not too much that goes into this. Just call your contact of choice and start negotiating!

Alternatively, you could leech off a willing host. That one might take a bit more negotiating, however. Good luck.

Switching phone providers

This is admittedly more of a last resort kind of thing: switch over to T-Mobile if you don’t already use them. They currently have a program, Netflix on Us, which pays for your Netflix subscription. There are a couple of hoops to jump through: you must possess at least two phone lines and your plan determines which Netflix package T-Mobile will pay for.

Switching phone providers seems like a huge leap just for Netflix. But for some, it may be worth it.

Free Netflix alternatives

Unfortunately, without treading into morally grey areas, it’s unlikely you’ll get a completely free Netflix experience – but there are alternatives.

The Roku Channel is a free streaming service with an admittedly limited selection of titles. It does, however, have a few golden options such as The Iron Giant, Airplane!, and The Addams Family.

Pluto TV, similar to The Roku Channel has a limited selection with a few golden items: Hell’s Kitchen, Degrassi, Grease 2, and more.

Lastly, Crackle has the least impressive lineup of these three alternatives. Yet, it still might be worth checking out, with standouts Tintin, Art of war, and 3rd Rock From the Sun.

Let us know below what direction you’re taking your budget streaming experience during quarantine. Happy streaming!
