When will Lauren Salzman be sentenced for her crimes in NXIVM? Delve into what led to her arrest and discover what her life is like today.

What’s life like for Lauren Salzman after the NXIVM cult?

Lauren Salzman, daughter of NXIVM co-founder Nancy Salzman, worked her way up quickly through the ranks. She wasn’t just another member, she was high up in the inner-circle and a very sought-out coach & teacher within the group. However, as she climbed NXIVM’s ladder, a dark side emerged.

Lauren Salzman had a funny streak and a heartwarming personality. She was a great coach because she made lessons relatable and broke down NXIVM’s concepts in an understandable way. Since she was so bubbly & warm, there’s nothing her best friend in NXIVM, Canadian actress Sarah Edmonson wouldn’t do for her, including joining DOS.

Lauren Salzman in DOS

Those of you who watch HBO’s The Vow (or followed the NXIVM case) will know that DOS was the sex-slave pyramid scheme nestled within NXIVM where participants were called “slaves,” received brands & had every aspect of their lives micromanaged by their “masters,” including food intake.

The Vow shows texts between Sarah Edmonson & Lauren Salzman where Edmonson asks her “master” if it’s OK if she goes to sleep for the night! Edmonson recalls in The Vow that other slaves would run errands or do household chores for Salzman.

Lauren Salzman was also the one who brought Sarah Edmonson to Allison Mack’s house to get branded. This was Edmonson’s “wake-up” moment where she knew something was deeply wrong in NXIVM.

Lauren Salzman was also a slave

While The Vow doesn’t say for sure, Sarah Edmonson suspected that Lauren Salzman was Allison Mack’s slave. Mack starred on Smallville and was considered the top of DOS, along with founder Keith Raniere. The way DOS worked was that it billed itself as a female empowerment group but really, it was a sex trafficking pyramid scheme.

In DOS, a “master” would recruit six slaves in their pod and then push their slaves to recruit their own slaves, becoming “masters” in turn. The “slaves” would have to serve their masters with petty chores, errands, and check-in with their masters three to four times a day. Masters like Lauren Salzman heavily pushed recruitment.

DOS members also had to put up “collateral,” or explicit photos & videos of themselves that their “masters” could blackmail them with if they didn’t comply. The Vow shows that this was more than a one-time thing. Masters would ask for new collateral monthly, sometimes weekly.

Was Lauren Salzman arrested like Allison Mack?

After Sarah Edmonson was branded, she left NXIVM. She warned the members taking over the Vancouver Center, which she previously ran, about the group, and to not let them in. She knew her “collateral” was probably already exposed, but she didn’t care (phone conversations in The Vow show Edmonson asking Salzman to destroy it, but it’s clear Edmonson didn’t believe her). She wanted out.

Edmonson went to The New York Times to expose NXIVM & DOS. From there, several former members like documentarian Mark Vicente and NXIVM’s former publicist Frank Parlato came forward to expose NXIVM. After several exposes and a federal investigation, NXIVM’s ringleaders, including Raniere & Mack, were arrested.

In the investigation, it came out that Lauren Salzman’s crimes were particularly heinous. She kept one of her slaves locked in a room for two years for failing to comply. She threatened to deport her slave, a Mexican citizen if she didn’t comply. For these crimes, Salzman was arrested & charged.

Lauren Salzman’s life today

Lauren Salzman had twenty-two slaves when she was exposed & arrested, according to the New York Times. Like Allison Mack, she pled guilty to racketeering & racketeering conspiracy. She was supposed to be sentenced in 2019, and could face up to twenty years behind bars for her part in NXIVM.

Alas, Salzman still awaits her sentence a year later, partly due to court closures amid COVID-19. She’s under house arrest with an ankle bracelet tracking her movements. The only person in NXIVM she’s allowed contact with is her mother, Nancy. She tried to argue for some restrictions to be lifted per Bustle, but a judge denied her request.

According to Frank Parlato, the judge may be considering “upward departure” for some NXIVM members. In Clare Bronfman’s case, the judge will use this legal guidance to extend her sentence from months to years. It’s possible the same sentencing guidelines are being considered for Lauren Salzman, Allison Mack, and others involved in this horrible scheme.

  • I hope Lauren and Nancy get years in prison. They are just as shitty as Keith and need to be thrown in prison for their actions.

  • I think the entire group are misunderstood and the media and narrative were bought by the world . It’s not what it seems although they did create something that just doesn’t seem like themselves . When you watch the Vow i Do not see bad intent . Putting them in Jail is disturbing

    • I’m guessing you were either a member or have the same mental instability as this shown to be in the cult leadership.

      October 13, 2020
      • Watch “seduced” on Starz. There is even more darkness to this cult than comes out in “the vow”. Also there is suspicion that Raniere poisoned 4 earlier followers.

    • I agree the documentary raises interesting questions with respect to the issue of consent, however, there were some pretty clear lines that were crossed with the collateral, threats of blackmail, malicious prosecution, etc.

    • Interesting reaponse 😳😆

      October 19, 2020
    • I just watched even more disturbing footage in the first episode of The Starz doc about India Oxenberg. Very sickening when he talks about some girls enjoying incest and babies who are f$&:able! This is an evil, disturbed and sick person!! I’m so sorry for all the lives he destroyed in the name of doing good. Peace to all who are hurting because of him and his entourage.

    • Naive much? You sound like a NXIVM member. If you want the entire truth watch the documentary, SEDUCED, on STARZ.

      October 28, 2020
    • You are genuinely warped. How can you NOT see anything bad with this? Wake up. Enslavement? Rape? Pedophilia? Mental, emotional, physical abuse? What the fk??? Are you insane??

      October 28, 2020
    • You are absolutely crazy!!!!
You are not supposed to manipulate people and make them see a situation in a different view. Weak people go these cults and these evil mastminds pay on them!!!!

    • I get what you’re saying.
Everyone is THRILLED with nxivm until DOS. They seem truly fulfilled for many years.
There is one thing that doesn’t rest with me. Keith never slept with Sarah Edmondson, so .. are there others he didn’t sleep with? That would mean that the point of the group was not sex, it was merely something he did with individuals who wanted it.
      But they weren’t straight forward.
Had they been honest to DOS recruits, there would be no crime.
The criminality is in portraying it as one thing, getting collateral, and THEN revealing something else.
      THAT is the problem.
But was it to recruit lovers?
But I do see how people get unhinged.
They love the idea of a monster for them to punish.

Part of me doesn’t buy brainwashing. To say yes I wanted this but it’s because he brainwashed me… It’s like wait
But I also observed the way he was in allison macks head, playing her like a violin so I think well… Ok.
The only reason I have mixed feelings is because he never made anyone do anything they didn’t want to.
Sex trafficking as a claim is dependent upon the sole purpose of DOS being to procure lovers for him and because he didn’t sleep with all of them, I do question if that was justice or a lynch mob.

Now, show me all that hate ladies.
Someone questioning instead of vilifying your monster is beyond your reasoning, so hit me with your best shot.

      October 31, 2020
      • Listen to the Parcast podcast called Cults. They do a 4 episode segment on Nxivm which gives more info and I think will show clearly The kind of person Keith was.

        November 10, 2020
      • You bring up valid points. As a lady, it’s a breath of fresh air to see someone question rather than believe the first thing they hear, the obvious. It’s great to see someone else who has critical thinking skills

    • You are either the most dimwitted person in the world, or the most inept troll ever, because your statement is too absurd to even be taken seriously. Congratulations on being utterly pathetic. Commiting heinous crimes, even without “bad intentions,” is still a punishable offense, as it should be. If these people were so compromised as to torture, blackmail, and facilitate the rape of other women, they must be held accountable. More importantly, they must he removed from society. The fact that they joined a cult does not absolve them of their crimes, nor does it make them any less dangerous.

There are consequences for going down a rabbit hole so deep that one loses track of right and wrong and gives over to dangerous behavior due to that decision. They are adults. They destroyed other people. Only a literal idiot would argue that they should be pardoned and set loose. Educate yourself.

      November 2, 2020
    • I agree no bad intent & maybe even good intent, even in having slaves believing it was helping, UNTIL keeping prisoners locked in a room for 2 years & threatening deportations etc. Those actions go far beyond their cult indoctrination to extreme cruelty etc for self satisfaction & benefit!
Yes they may have have started out as victims BUT they exceeded actions of other victims & behaved, even if you believe the DOS NXIVM bs, in horrific ways unecessary & only to benefit themselves personally!
Prison is the only answer, not remotely disturbing, & in fact a necessity.

      November 5, 2020
  • I hope Allison Mack never works in Hollywood again and ALL of these disgusting sh*tbags, especially Keith, get to spend the rest of their viable years in lock up. They do not deserve freedom considering how they created an enslaved environment for others.

    October 15, 2020
  • Lauren Salzman 22 slaves, kept 1 in a room for 2 years. She needs to be in a cell for a long long time!! No normal human being would ever think that was right which proves she is not normal! Allison Mack the same goes for her!! Watch them become slaves in prison! Her Mother and anyone else involved in this needs to rot as well!! Disgusting humans and there is no need for them in society!!

    October 25, 2020
    • Agreed! Even those indoctrinated & truly believing having slaves etc was a good thing for all, did not carry out such over the top horrific behaviour!

      November 5, 2020
  • First of all, why would any of these people listen to this little midget hairy horrible little man? Secondly, why would these idiot pay hundreds of thousands to take these stupid courses and allow anyone to control their lives? Third, why didn’t they run at the request for “collateral” and being a slave? What kind of people are they? They just allowed the morons to brand them on their genitals? These were obviously unstable people with no self esteem and no sense of reality! I guess that clear by all the morons who were artist liberals freaks in the group!
People with no sense of reality no sense of family and no sense of morality.
They sat there and said nothing as the little midget psycho talked about raping babies and children.
They’re all a bunch of liars. In the start documentary with India she clearly stated what an a$$ Mark was as she told how he txted her so much to return from from job are be locked out!
Now he’s trying to deflect and claim he was a victim? He chose this cult over his own wife! Be real here!

    October 27, 2020
    • Why victimize the victims even more???
let’s lay blame where blame belongs on the predator(s)
In all the documentaries I’ve ever watched all of the former members state that they were looking for something or someone… I think it’s speaks volumes to the resilience and strength of Mark and Anthony “Nippy” to be so honest about being manipulated/misled/brainwashed or whatever you want to call it… I think it’s rare in this day and age that people take responsibility for their actions!!!
Mark and his wife, Sarah and her husband along with countless other were brave enough to come forward and risk EVERYTHING to try and bring help to those stuck in a horrific situation.
Gaslighting is real!!! Being manipulated can happen to anyone!

Again blaming victims is ridiculous, especially when they try to make things right and show extreme remorse.

      October 29, 2020
      • Thank you. The amount of shaming that goes on is disappointing. Lack of empathy or ease at overlooking nuance and indoctrination is dangerous. All people are susceptible, not all people are so unfortunate to get tangled up in such a well crafted self serving facade as this.

        October 29, 2020
      • That’s nonsense. Victim blaming would be blaming this woman for being raped. Unfortunately for your defense, she personally facilitated the rape and torture of numerous other women, and is now morally, ethically, and legally responsible for that criminal behavior, whether or not she was also hurt.

Some pedophiles go on to be abusers. Some bullied children grow up to bullies. It’s unfortunate that hurt people sometimes go on to hurt other people, and it isn’t fair, but it isn’t an excuse either. It’s a world full of pain and misleading influences, but that does not in any way absolve people of violent crime. That’s not how it works.

Per your own argument, if she can’t be held responsible for going so far off the deep end that she isn’t responsible for facilitating the rape, blackmail, and torture of so many other women, then she needs to be institutionalized for life.

        November 2, 2020
    • Liberals have a profound sense of morality. The difference is, they recognize that “family” is a concept invented by rulers to manage society, not some God ordained, righteous wonder. The entire point of being liberal is a higher standard of care for humanity than conservatives, whose care only extends to their own tribe.

Hearing you, you obviously have no idea what happened and you’re making snap judgments with no information. You should probably learn a little more before you feel emboldened to speak.

When you hear how it happened, it’s understandable how ANYONE could have been in their position.

      October 31, 2020
      • “Liberals” ? what does this have to do with being liberal or conservative? What a freaking lame thing to say.

        November 6, 2020
    • Cult indoctrination is a truly powerful & dangerous thing that in fact CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE at the right time :o( In fact, those who believe it could never happen to them & they are so much smarter or above being indoctrinated, are those most likely to become victims if they are unlucky enough to run into the possibility at the wrong time ;o)
(Just look at what has happened in the USA with the Cult45…. terrifying & sad)

      November 5, 2020
  • This is just disturbing. Much larger scale Trump and his followers! It is a cult too!

Keith should be castrated! The women who abused and used other women in his name should be executed. Why should tax payers continue to pay for these sick people!

What is this country coming too???

    October 28, 2020
  • I thought the same in The Vow but watch Seduced in Starz. It provides more specific examples of the heinous things they did. ITS CRAZY CRUELAND EVIL.

    October 29, 2020
  • Salzman and Mack deserve life in prison. Salzman should get solitary confinement for a minimum of two years of her life sentence for holding that innocent immigrant women hostage, alone in a room for two years! May you never again see the light of day.

    October 30, 2020
  • “Seduced” is way more disturbing than the Vow. The Vow was creepy and disturbing, but “Seduced” is next level. After watching all of the Vow I still didn’t know about the overt teachings that men were essentially in charge and women were to be more submissive. I hadn’t realized that the women were abused, even outside of DOS. It also shows much more clearly how Keith is a sexual predator. Horrifying. Questions: did Nancy Salzman have a role or know about DOS?
