Did the cast of ‘The Talk’ force Marie Osmond to quit?
Marie Osmond’s unexpected departure from The Talk might not have been as innocent as we previously heard. Osmond originally became a co-host for The Talk in 2019 as a replacement for Sara Gilbert, who revealed she was leaving to be with her family and to focus on The Connors.
After only one season of co-hosting the daytime talk show, Osmond announced she would be leaving The Talk shortly before the season eleven premiere. This announcement came in the midst of on-air arguments with co-hosts and behind-the-scenes animosity recently revealed by some CBS insiders.
While the rumors haven’t been corroborated, some fans took their concerns about Osmond online, even calling for The Talk’s cancellation following Osmond’s quick departure. Here’s what we know about Marie Osmond’s relationship with her former co-hosts and what she’s up to now.
Rumors of being quietly fired
A source at CBS told Page Six Sharon Osbourne & Sheryl Underwood went to CBS executives, saying they would quit if Osmond didn’t leave. The source said, “Marie did not leave of her own accord”. The source also claimed Osbourne & Underwood initially confronted Osbourne, asking her to quit. When that didn’t work, Osbourne & Underwood “made an ultimatum to the network”.
While we don’t know what Eve thinks about the situation, the source stated Carrie Ann Inaba “pleaded with execs for Marie to stay”. Page Six stated they reached out for comment from each party, but they “refused to comment”.
Clashing co-hosts?
Before her official departure, Osmond’s friend told The Sun she “suspected” Osmond wouldn’t get a new contract at The Talk, since “she and fans could see clear divides between the outspoken women”.
There were a few indications of animosity between the co-hosts on the show, specifically between Osmond & Osbourne. Osbourne even received backlash for how she treated Osmond, with some fans calling for Osbourne’s departure, with many calling Osbourne “rude”, according to The Sun. The tabloid also spoke to a CBS source, saying some of the co-hosts “were not the warmest” and at times “frosty”.
Osmond’s departure
Deadline first reported Osmond’s exit in early September, shortly before the start of The Talk’s eleventh season. CBS didn’t reveal too much in their statement, only saying they “will miss her humor, kindness, and good nature”.
Likewise, Osmond only made a short statement on Twitter, where she thanked The Talk’s former executive producer & showrunner John Redmann, who also left during the show’s summer hiatus. Osmond will still be busy with other work, including a new show with ViacomCBS, according to Deadline, and she stated her intent to work with Redmann on other projects.
The co-hosts of The Talk haven’t said too much about Osmond’s departure, but Sharon Osbourne told Entertainment Tonight earlier in September she believes having only four hosts means they’ve “got more time to talk”.
Upset fans
The source who spoke to Page Six said The Talk has faced “extreme backlash” on social media, even receiving “thousands of negative comments flooding their accounts”. One fan on Instagram said the show is “not the same without Marie”.
The Sun reported multiple fans voicing their concerns on The Talk’s Facebook page, with one fan saying they “weren’t impressed at all” by the show’s new format. Others said the show “should be taken off TV” and have called Osmond’s surprising farewell “unfair”.
Where is Marie Osmond now?
According to The Sun, Osmond hasn’t been watching the new season of The Talk, with a friend saying Osmond “has made a conscious effort to forget and move on”. As of right now, The Talk is the “last thing on her mind” and she’s currently on a road trip with her husband Stephen Craig.

When I do turn this show on I give it 5 minutes before it GOES OFF. You’re all right! Marie was way too classy for this show . As far as Cheryl,,, GO off and retire somewhere. I agree with your statement. Honestly, The show hasn’t been the same since Julie left. Sharon seems like an ass behind the scenes. And the rest put up with Cheryl’s degrading of men when she wants to manhandle them. I stopped watching when none of them seemed to want to condemn Weinstein but had no problem condemning non-Hollywood people accused of the same.

I started watching The Talk because of Marie. Sharon was my least favorite, as it was obvious from the beginning that she wanted nothing to do with Marie. CBS, you guys made a HUGE mistake! The death knell will be the day you hire Kelly Osborne. I’ll have to read about it, since you lost me as a viewer when Marie left the show.

Cheryl Underwood professes to be a Christian, but she is the crudest and most vulgar person on tv. She is setting the WRONG example, especially for new “baby Christians”! Marie had a number of “slip ups” during her time on The Talk. She made comments about Cheryl and Eve being “Smart”, a common thing for a racist white person to say, as if that was an exception to what one would expect, and made a reference to her adopted daughter, as when she decided to “go gay”, not the best way to describe her coming out. In all fairness, Marie was raised Mormon and probably was raised with narrow views about minorities and alternate lifestyles, which is why I was surprised that she was ever selected to join the show where the hosts were liberal in their views, There was also a lot of backlash in the past, when her adopted son committed suicide, and shortly after she resumed her Vegas show. People grieve in different ways but the fact that there were rumors that he was gay and having issues with that, made appear insensitive. Also, for someone who adopted so many children, she seemed more interested in doing her shows to make as much money as possible, instead of wanting to spend time with those children, many of whom ended up in rehab and seemed troubled. And I do remember the episode where she said her children weren’t getting her money when she passed, but instead her charities will get it. I remember just not understanding why, weren’t they deserving enough? She and Cheryl seemed to like each other first, but I noticed a change as time went on. At any rate there had to have been complaints, for them to have let her go.

I was afraid that Marie would be too Goody Goody, But she wasn’t. She was a nice balance to the crass Sharon Osborne. I really didn’t watch the show before Marie because I can’t stand Sharon Osborne. With Marie on and Eve it gave a nice balance. Now both of them are gone/going. I love Carrie Ann Inaba. I think she is a class at.

So what, people clash all the time. Each lady has their own personality and I love them all. It’s sad to see Marie leave, but I’ve been watching since Aisha was on. Sherly is a comedian and it shows in her conversations. She means no harm and has a huge heart. She’s not here for your approval. Sharon is just as sweet. Marie was only on for a short time. Eve is gone now also. This opens the door for other ladies to join and they may not all mesh, so what! Grow up! If you don’t like it then find something else to watch. It’s always sad to see any of the ladies leave and I just wish them all the best! I will continue to watch my favorite show!

I do not really watch the Talk anymore , no longer interesting , they should have hired Carne Wilson a long time ago , the Talk needs someone down to earth , not phony , someone that is relatable to everyone , I believe the show should be cancelled !!!
