Want free PS5 games? Add these games to your PlayStation account

Console gamers can finally rejoice: Sony’s disappointing PlayStation 5 pre-order sale (selling out of all PS5s in a fraction of a second) is in the past. As of November 12, those who tragically missed the disastrous PS5 pre-sale can now order them and enjoy the new games PlayStation has in store. The coveted new PlayStation console has out-sold the new Xbox Series X so far.

Why is the fifth-generation PlayStation in such hot demand? According to Sony’s president, the PS5 processes game data 100 times faster than the PS4, making for a smoother experience with shorter load times. Not to mention, there’s an impressive PS5 game line-up which includes high-profile titles like Final Fantasy XVIResident Evil: Village, and an open-world Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy.

However, these highly anticipated games have yet to be released, leaving a smaller selection of PS5 exclusive games to pop in the machine and play. Games to get your PS5 fever started include Astro’s Playroom (which comes pre-installed on the console), Demon’s Souls, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

Getting antsy for more options? Tired of paying the big bucks? (Some PS5 games cost as much as $70 – ouch.) Lucky for you, Sony has a lovely assortment of totally free PS5 games just waiting to be downloaded to your account. Let’s cut to the chase and check out these complimentary offerings.

Call of Duty Warzone

Alas, it has arrived – a Call of Duty Battle Royale with the same spirit of PUBG and Fortnite. With superb gunplay and open, expansive settings, CoD really nailed it. Warzone is especially attractive for Battle Royal enthusiasts because it allows a whopping 150 players in a game, and expansions will up the number to 200. Available for crossplay on nearly all platforms, PS5 has a great version of CoD: Warzone for free.

Fortnite

Speaking of Battle Royales, you better bet Fortnite will be on there. Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite put its own spin on the genre, adding building elements to the third-person combat game. Available for free to download on the PS5, you can hop on the bandwagon and enjoy the popular gaming sensation.

Warframe

Originally released on the PS4, Warframe is a signature free-to-play game on console. The stunning space ninja action RPG is reminiscent of the beloved game Destiny 2 with its excellent co-op & teamworking elements. With a great mix of third-person PvP, PvE, and a compelling narrative, Warframe is too good to be true. Definitely take advantage of this free game – it’ll look amazing with the shiny new PS5 graphics

War Thunder

Similar to Warframe, the third-person action RPG War Thunder made its debut on the PS4. Ever at war, the open-world military game lets you run into battle by land, sea, or air with fantastic graphics. On PS5 the simulation is especially wowing with 4k resolution running at sixty frames per second.

Share Factory Studio

This is one you must download on your PS5, because it’s a fantastic way to personalize your gaming experience. Share Factory Studio is not a “game” per se, but a video/photo editing program that helps you capture & share your favorite gaming moments. It’s loaded with features like 4K HDR support, sound effects, stickers, text, and filters. The Toolbox feature also lets you import videos, images, and audio from a USB.

PlayStation All-Stars Arena

In the same vein as Smash Bros, the arena brawler All-Stars Arena brings together some of Sony’s classic characters including Crash Bandicoot, Lara Croft, Spider-Man, and Spyro the Dragon. This fun PvP functions in a 3D arena with cartoonish environments. Sit tight on this one, because there will be a separate free-to-play edition to come, which unfortunately will have a limited selection of game modes & characters.

How to download

Excited to get going on some of these titles? In case you’re too gassed to figure out how to find them on your PS5, here’s a quick guide so you know how to download the free games and give them a shot.

First, turn on your PS5 and sign into your PSN account. Next, select the PlayStation Store in the main menu (the blue PlayStation bag icon.) Scroll until you find the “Free” section and click. From there you can pilfer through and find the titles listed above (and more). Be sure to use filters (like alphabetical) to help you find the game you want. Make sure you have enough free memory space and download that sucker.
