With four movies and a TV series, 'Scream' is one of the most beloved horror franchises out there. Here's what we know about 'Scream 5' and its cast.

The original ‘Scream’ cast: Who will be returning for the reboot?

Looking for a new horror movie to suit your fancy? We’ve got a treat for you! It was recently announced that Scream 5 is currently being produced by Ready or Not writers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

With four movies and a TV series, Scream is one of the most beloved horror franchises out there. Scream movies are among the highest-grossing slasher films in the world, and their legacy isn’t over. A perfect mixture of horror & comedy, Scream 5 is the nostalgic reboot we all need right now.

What can you look forward to in Scream 5? While the writers are new, we know that not all of the cast members will be new. Rumors are popping up all over about which of our beloved characters will come back. So, which cast members will be returning to reprise their iconic roles in the franchise?

David Arquette confirmed to return

David Arquette who plays Sheriff Dewey Riley is guaranteed to come back for Scream 5. Appearing in every single Scream movie, Sheriff Dewey Riley is a staple to the franchise.

Arquette has expressed delight in his return, saying, “I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my ‘Scream’ family, old and new. Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy.”

Thank goodness we can feel reassured that David Arquette will be back. Scream just wouldn’t be Scream without our heroic & flirty cop that somehow always makes it out alive.

Neve Campbell is a hopeful maybe

Another Scream veteran we hope to see in Scream 5 is Neve Campbell who portrays Sidney Prescott. Starring in all four previous movies, the movies lit up with snarky & resilient Sidney as a protagonist.

The new directors of Scream 5 have reached out to Neve about resuming her role as Sidney, but the word is still out on whether or not she’ll accept the offer. She expresses great confidence in the new directors but ultimately concludes, “The timing’s not great right now, obviously. We’re starting conversations, we’re starting negotiations, but who knows how and when studios are going to open again.”

Though many projects are halted right now, that doesn’t mean that the future isn’t bright. Let’s just hope that Neve’s response basically means yes, and that we’ll see her in the reboot of Scream.

Jamie Kennedy to be a villain?

Jamie Kennedy who stars as Randy Meeks, Sydney’s geeky admirer, departed from his role when Randy was killed in Scream 2 by Ghostface, the villain of the Scream series. However, Jamie has expressed interest in returning to be in Scream 5.

Responding to a fan theory that Randy faked his death, and is the mastermind behind the killings, Jamie says, “I think this is an interesting angle. And I believe I know why he did it. Who’s on board.”

We’re hoping that the directors are on board! It would be very interesting to see Jamie Kennedy come back and play Randy as a villain. He would have unique motives that we wouldn’t see coming. Let’s pray that this cry was heard!

Matthew Lillard: resurrecting Stu

Who else would we love to see come back? None other than the killer comic-relief character Stu Macher. The talent behind Stu, Matthew Lillard, loves the idea of bringing back Stu for Scream 5, excitedly saying:

“There’s nobody that wouldn’t want to come back and reprise a role they got to do when they were a boy and be able to do something different as a man would be exciting. You just don’t get that opportunity often.”

Stu, however, was killed by Sydney in the first Scream after he was chasing her as Ghostface. While we’d absolutely love to see Stu be resurrected for Scream 5, we’ll have to see what the new directors have in mind. A zombie Stu might not be in their best interest.

Courteney Cox – we’ll see!

The reboot just wouldn’t be complete without the return of Gale Riley, the ambitious reporter always involved in taking down Ghostface. Having starred in all four movies, Courteney Cox would be cherished if she appears in Scream 5.

Currently, there’s no word yet as to whether or not Courteney is going to make an appearance in Scream 5, but there have been reports that she’s been approached about reviving her role. We’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed.
