‘The Umbrella Academy’ season 2: Everything we know so far

Sure the Apocalypse happened, but that doesn’t mean much for those in the Umbrella Academy – especially when you have a brother who can travel through time & space. But what became of our motley crew of heroes post-Apocalypse?

Luckily we’ll find out soon because the Umbrella Academy gang is most certainly alive and we’ll be seeing them in the upcoming season 2. The renewal of the Netflix series is confirmed and more details about the events to come have been unveiled. Here’s everything we know about The Umbrella Academy season 2

New setting

The last we heard from our superhero family, they were barely eluding death as the explosive events of the Apocalypse ensued. Thanks to their brother, Number Five, and his wonderfully overpowered ability to teleport across time & space, the family blinked out of existence landing in an unknown location & era.

While initially the events following the season 1 finale were shrouded by showrunner Steve Blackman, we now know that season 2 will pick up right where they left off. Season 1 is based on Apocalypse Suite, the first volume of The Umbrella Academy comic series by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and artist Gabriel Bá (Daytripper). Season 2, aptly will follow the second volume in the series – Dallas

As you could have guessed, The Umbrella Academy season 2 is indeed set in Dallas – but there’s a twist. This time Number Five’s uncontrollable power has transported them all back in time to the 60s. However, the Hargreeves siblings will be split up – much as they are in the onset of season 1. Because Number Five’s powers are unrefined, they each arrive at a slightly different point in time.

Maybe now that this jaded motley crew witnessed the Apocalypse first hand, Number Five will have an easier time uniting them so they can face the imminent doom together. After miserably failing to prevent catastrophe the first time, we can only hope that the Hargreeves family would step it up a notch this time.

New faces

The Umbrella Academy season 2 will not only shift in time period, it will also invite new characters to join the scene. Stranded in different points in time, they’ll have to make new friends to get by. And with new characters comes new cast members.

Season 2 will welcome a non-comic book character named Lila (Ritu Arya) who has been called “a chameleon who can be as brilliant or as clinically insane as the situation requires.” Joining her will be devoted husband & leader Raymond (Yusuf Gatewood) and Sissy, a Texas housewife (Marin Ireland). Additionally, we’ll see a trio of Swedish assassins portrayed by Tom Sinclair, Kris Holden-Ried, & Jason Bryden.

Old faces

While we will be seeing more of these new characters in Umbrella Academy season 2, that doesn’t mean that anyone from the main cast will be washed out. In fact, the whole ensemble, Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Robert Sheehan, Emmy Raver-Lampman, & Justin H. Min. Blackman will, of course, be returning as the signature Hargreeves siblings we all know and love.

One character who will make more of an appearance is Ben, the Umbrella Academy sibling who died before the show – only being witnessed by Sheehan Klaus because of his power to see dead people. In the season finale, we got to see Ben materialize and use his stellar abilities to rescue his family. Despite being deceased, we believe that his presence in the series will become more prominent.

Unfortunately, it has not been confirmed as to whether or not our favorite time-traveling duo, Hazel and Cha-Cha, will return for season 2. Cameron Britton & Mary J. Blige bring tremendous flavor as wacky, working-class assassins just trying to do their job. All we can do is hope for their return. Why couldn’t they just jump into the 60s with the gang?
