Fallen in love with Xiao Zhan? Here are some of Xiao Zhan's best roles, besides our all-time favorite, Wei Wuxian in 'The Untamed'.

All the Xiao Zhan films and TV series you need to see

The only thing we need more of in our lives in The Untamed and its stars, Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. We may be mildly obsessed with both the boy love fantasy drama series and its stars.

While we admit Xiao Zhan wasn’t completely on our radar prior to his role as the mischievous and carefree Wei Wuxian, we have now devoured all of the content starring Xiao Zhan that we can find.  Here are some of his best roles, besides our all-time favorite, Wei Wuxian in The Untamed.

Our Song (2019)

This variety show, Our Song pairs up new Chinese singers with popular and well-established Chinese singers that have been singing for years to bring you a new version of classic award-winning songs.

One of the things we love about Our Song is that it gives us a taste of Xiao Zhan’s personality. Plus, his singing is ridiculously amazing in this series. Xiao Zhan’s versatility as a performer is off the charts, and Our Song does an amazing job at highlighting his skills.

Joy of Life (2019)

Although Xiao Zhan wasn’t the lead in Joy of Life, it is still definitely worth watching. Joy of Life is the story of Fan Xian (Zhang Ruo Yun), who grew up in a small town by the sea with his grandmother, following a sudden visit of a poison master, his peaceful life quickly morphs into one filled with danger and hardship.

After becoming rather skilled with medicine, poison, and martial arts, Fan Xian goes to the capital to find out more about his mysterious mother. He ends up on an adventure of exploring the world, getting tangled in politics, finding true love, and figuring out his purpose in life.

Xiao Zhan’s part in this series is disappointingly small for season 1, and he really doesn’t appear until the last 8-10 episodes. However, Joy of Life is expected to have 3 seasons total, and season 1 ends with all sorts of cliffhangers and twists. We have reason to believe that Xiao Zhan will play a much bigger role in further seasons of Joy of Life, so it’s worth binging this incredible show now!

Oh! My Emperor (2018)

This is a story about a young woman, Luo Fei Fei (Zhao Lu Si), from the 21st century who mistakenly travels to a mysterious kingdom of the past, Huang Dao Guo, which just so happens to be governed by astrological law. Luo Fei Fei’s appearance in the kingdom disrupts the balance of power and conflict clearly ensues. Upon her arrival, she is at odds with all constellation rulers, yet as time passes and relationships form, things begin to change.

In comparison to the gorgeous production of The Untamed, Oh! My Emperor is definitely not on the same level, but Oh! My Emperor is still super entertaining. Emotions run the gamut from laugh-out-loud funny to heart-wrenching. Definitely worth checking out!

Jade Dynasty 1 (2019)

After the massacre of his village, Zhang Xiao Fan (Xiao Zhan) is taken in by the Qing Yun Sect where he begins his journey of cultivation. When he finds out the truth behind the deaths of his parents, he succumbs to his rage and demonic tendencies and becomes the enemy of the Qing Yun Sect.

Even though this story has been told before as a drama series and a novel, the movie version is totally worth a watch. Xiao Zhan is at his best back in the role of a cultivator, and Jade Dynasty 1 feels like a great warmup for his ultimate role as Wei Wuxian in The Untamed.

The Oath of Love (2020)

While we totally acknowledge this one is cheating, we cannot wait for The Oath of Love to come out so we can’t leave it off this list!

This contemporary drama is the story of Lin Zhi Xiao (Yang Zi) and Gu Wei (Xiao Zhan). As Lin Zhi Xiao is about to graduate from university, her father falls ill and she has to put aside all her life goals (including her boyfriend) to care for him.

Enter Gu Wei, her father’s doctor. The two meet as Lin Zhi Xiao is accompanying her father to surgery one day, and it’s love at first sight. Both characters come to the table with baggage from previous relationships, which means that the process of getting to know each other is not all smooth sailing.

Their trials and tribulations don’t prevent them from falling in love though, and by the end of the series, the pair just might be made for each other!
