A harrowing story: Elizabeth Vargas details what life in a cult is like

On Wednesday’s latest episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County Elizabeth Lyn Vargas stated that she went through something no young girl, no one “should ever go through”. The recent installment of the franchise has raised a lot of attention and concern for the Orange County star. 

The premiere of season fourteen of The Real Housewives of Orange County presented a shocking story about the housewife nobody saw coming. 

Who is Elizabeth Vargas? 

According to Bravo Elizabeth Lyn Vargas was born and raised in Missouri in the United States of America, and recently divorced Norweigian-American businessman Bernt O. Bodal. Bodal is a former musician and CEO of a large seafood company called American Seafoods. Vargas now stars alongside five famous housewives on season fourteen of Real Housewives of Orange County

Page Six reported that Elizabeth Lyn Vargas is claiming she was raised in a “religious cult” that involved being molested & abused. The newest member of the Real Housewives of Orange County revealed everything about her unbelievable childhood.

The Real Housewives of Orange County reality star spoke her truth after struggling with a panic attack due to a discussion about where Varas is from. Braunwyn Windham-Burke helped Vargas and heard first-hand about the very real nightmare. 

Elizabeth Lyn Vargas told Windham-Burke, “From zero to thirteen, I was raised in this religious environment” and that she was constantly surrounded by a religious cult her family were deeply involved in. Vargas sadly expressed, “My grandmother was the head of the religious cult and my father was one of the main preachers as well”.

Page Six reported that Vargas had a terrible time in the religious cult as she was restricted with many rules. Vargas expressed, “We couldn’t wear anything else but this uniform. We couldn’t eat anything but what they made us or what they shot. We couldn’t leave the ranch, we were stuck on a commune. We couldn’t even go to a hospital, they knew how to control every single person on that property”. 

According to Screenrant Elizabeth Lyn Vargas told viewers she belonged to the “Faith Bible Tabernacle church” in the Midwest. Vargas stated “We were were in a church environment and all this s**t hit the fan, and I told my neighbor what was happening inside the church and the FBI came to shut down the church”. 

The Real Housewives of Orange County star Gina Kirschenheiter asked Vargas if she was ever “molested?”. Vargas answered “Yes, by many situations”. Vargas continued saying that she was molested by many men and felt “misplaced”. 

Page Six reported that Elizabeth Lyn Vargas believes she owes everything to her mother for removing her and her siblings from the religious cult. Vargas expressed, “My mom did everything she could to get her kids out of that situation and she did, that’s why I love her to death”. 

Vargas’s emotions

Elizabeth Lyn Vargas told Windham-Burke, Kirschenheiter and Kelly Dodd,  “I’m not going to tell all the girls that, ‘Oh by the way, I was in religious f**king cult growing up that told me to shut my f**king mouth or I’d be thrown under a bridge’”. 

According to People, in The Housewife of Orange County episode, Braunwyn Windham-Burke told Elizabeth Lyn Vargas that “It just makes me think better of you because now it’s like I have context for all of this”. 

The Real Housewives of Orange County star added that she always felt “complete fear, anxiety, anguish” growing up in the cult as she feared for her life because people were “beaten so bad” she thought she “was going to die one day of it.”
