Nothing says summertime like shutting those curtains, unplugging the phone, and tuning into your favorite streaming sites for a long, hot seasonal bingewatch. Today we’re headed to Hulu to check out the TV shows and movies joining the slate in May 2018 and let’s just say, you’ve got a lot coming your way, folks! While you’re probably still reeling from the return of The Handmaid’s Tale, we thought we’d bring to your attention the plethora of new content headed to Hulu in the coming weeks. Gilead’s not the only place to vacay this summer!

New TV shows:

All Night: Season 1

Available: May 11

Not long to wait until S1 of Jason Ubaldi’s forthcoming high-school comedy hits Hulu, centering on an overnight, lock-in graduation party in which a group of new grads will do whatever it takes to make their last high-school wishes come true. If the teaser trailer’s anything to go by, All Night is gonna be off the chain.

Patrick Melrose: Season 1

Available: May 12

The long-awaited five-part limited series based on the acclaimed novels by Edward St. Aubyn will make its season premiere on Hulu this May, spanning the complicated life of protagonist Patrick Melrose (Benedict Cumberbatch). The narrative skewers the upper class as it tracks Melrose’s journey from a privileged yet abusive childhood, through to substance abuse in his twenties and ultimately, his journey towards recovery.

Classic TV shows:

12 Monkeys: Season 3

In case you missed it last year, the third season of the sci-fi mystery drama 12 Monkeys is headed to Hulu this May. Based loosely based on the 1995 film of the same, the season centers on the relationships between some characters (among the numerous time travels, deleted timelines, sinister omens, and self-fulfilling prophecies) as the group works to fight the Four Horsemen.

I’m Dying Up Here: Season 2

Available: May 6

While the first season of I’m Dying Up Here struggled to draw in a wide audience, the comedy series starring Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and executive produced by Jim Carrey (The Truman Show) showed enough intrigue to get a ten-episode order, with the S2 premiere headed to Hulu in May. The drama is based on the non-fiction book of the same name by William Knoedelseder, centering on the highs and lows of L.A.’s famed 70s stand-up comedy scene.

The Strain: Season 4

Whether you missed it or you need a good horror show to revisit, Hulu’s adding S4 of Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain to its slate, bringing with it a whole load of enthralling pulpy vampire drama.

Claws: Season 1

Available: May 11

S2 of the dramedy is dropping June 11, meaning there’s just enough time to revisit the first instalment when it’s added to Hulu mid-May. Described as “Breaking Bad meets Steel Magnolias”, this visually stimulating female-fronted saga follows a group of hardworking manicurists who mesh acrylics with crime to keep their business afloat.

New Movies:

The Strange Ones (2018)

A camping trip is not what it seems in this arty but suspenseful drama from directors Christopher Radcliff (Jonathan’s Chest) and Lauren Wolkstein (Cigarette Candy), which Vulture described as “a perfect demonstration of how the craft of storytelling is also the craft of withholding.”

I, Tonya (2017)

I, Tonya is well worth a watch (or rewatch), starring Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) in this darkly comedic tale of the American figure skater Tonya Harding. Stephen Frears’s gripping thriller stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) & Audrey Tautou (Amélie) as an undocumented alien from Nigeria and a Turkish émigré respectively, using the secret activities at a hotel as the vehicle to drive the narrative set in London’s illegal immigrant underworld.

Thief (1981)
