'True Blood' may have ended, but we can still enjoy iconic moments from Lafayette. Celebrate the reboot with these classic scenes.

Celebrate the ‘True Blood’ reboot by revisiting Lafayette’s best moments

Now that TVLine and other sources are announcing a True Blood reboot is in the works, it’s time to look back at this HBO fave, starring Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, Bill Moyers as Bill Compton, and the ever-so-sexy Eric Northman played by Alexander Skarsgård himself. And of course, how could we forget the most powerful fry cook in Bon Temps, Louisiana, Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis)?

True Blood was initially released in 2008 and ended after seven seasons in 2014. Creator Alan Ball produced this HBO hit about Sookie Stackhouse, a “telepathic waitress” who embarks upon a new world beyond her wildest dreams. As beautiful as the world may sound, it’s infested with vampires, werewolves, and evil witches.

Based on the Charlaine Harris novels, we’re wondering what this reboot will look like. Although HBO hasn’t confirmed the reboot is on the works yet, here’s what we know so far.

True Blood reboot?

The cast of True Blood includes Anna Paquin (playing protagonist Sookie Stackhouse), Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton), Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte), and Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse). The HBO series ended with a three-year leap into the future with most of the main characters killed off – however, Sookie Stackhouse is alive & pregnant at the end of it all.

According to Deadline, HBO’s True Blood reboot will be created & produced by Riverdale & Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien. The original series creator Alan Ball is also hands as an executive producer on the upcoming series, so older fans don’t have to worry about the show being too different from the original series.

True Blood was an adaptation of Charlaine Harris’s book series, The Southern Vampire Mysteries. The show’s original story follows the telepathic waitress, Sookie Stackhouse, living her life in Louisiana amongst other supernatural creatures like evil witches, vampires, and werewolves.

Through it all, Sookie Stackhouse has her comrades at Merlotte’s to rely on, including our favorite sassy fry cook, Lafayette Reynolds.

Lafayette Reynolds

Lafayette Reynolds, played by the late Nelsan Ellis, is Merlotte’s glamorous fry cook who’s ready for anything (and makes amazing food). Despite the character’s devil-may-care demeanor, Lafayette cares about his close circle – and selling drugs. The character becomes extremely interesting when he discovers his medium powers, becoming a valuable asset in True Blood’s plot.

According to IndieWire, Nelsan Ellis died in 2017 due to extreme heart complications at thirty-nine years old. Ellis earned many awards for his role in the True Blood series such as the NAACP Image Awards & Satellite Awards. Although the fallen actor may not be playing Lafayette in the True Blood Reboot, we can definitely look back at the cook’s top tasty moments.

Order up!

The first episode of True Blood brings out the feisty side of Lafayette after a customer thinks Lafayette’s burgers are infected with “AIDS”. Lafayette quickly pulls off her clip-on earrings and serves a burger with a stern lesson about not being a homophobic jerk on the side. He shows the entire restaurant what type of chef he really is by flipping the burger in the customers face, ending his scene with the line: “tip your waitress.”

Sassy sisters

In True Blood season 1, Lafayette may not seem like he needs checking up on but when his cousin Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley) finds out Lafayette’s dealing drugs & vampire blood, she decides to get involved. Tara decides to throw everything she can find at Lafayette, while he remains calm, cool, and a little high.

Flirty Lafayette

Viewers see a much softer side of Lafayette in True Blood season 3. Lafayette decides to share a night with his new flame Jesus (Kevin Alejandro). Lafayette has fallen head over heels for Jesus, but it seems like Jesus has a lot more on his mind than just Lafayette’s strong words.

Power of love

When Lafayette’s lover Jesus needs to be saved, Lafayette’s power is finally released. In True Blood season 4, he’s pushed to the edge with his uncle’s wild theories about Lafayette’s magic and ends up discovering he has magic within himself – more powerful than channeling spirits as a medium.

Thanks for stopping by

Later in True Blood season 4, Lafayette was possessed by an African-American woman who was murdered by her husband almost a century ago. When Lafayette finally exorcizes her from him, he ends his possession in a touching moment, telling the free spirit, “You got it bitch” before watching the ancient spirit find peace.

True Blood may have ended, but we can still enjoy these awesome moments featuring one of the best characters. Let us know what your favorite Lafayette scene was in the comments below.
