Did 2020 kill Ghislaine Maxwell’s marriage? Look inside divorce rumors

Since Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest in 2020, Jeffrey Epstein has been in the headlines. Epstein died in prison after being arrest for multiple counts of sex trafficking in 2019. Now, the Southern District of New York has revealed new information that could damage Maxwell’s current possibility for bail.

The Daily Mail reported Ghislaine Maxwell’s team has denied any divorce from her “secret” husband of four years. According to one of Maxwell’s representatives, Maxwell has denied any claims about a possible divorce from her secret husband and that she should be considered for bail regardless of her marriage.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest

Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in New Hampshire in July 2020 for enticing minors, sex trafficking a perjury, charges relating to her alleged role as Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice. Multiple sources claimed Maxwell allegedly recruited & procured girls for Jeffrey Epstein, including Epstein’s victims like Virginia Roberts-Giuffre.

Ghislaine Maxwell can spend up to thirty-five years if convicted of her crimes, including perjury. Maxwell’s current case follows her alleged enticing of “minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, perjury and other offenses.”

Ghislaine Maxwell has pleaded not guilty of the aforementioned charges. While she was denied bail in July, she’s applying for bail again. This time, she has the net worth & help of her husband behind her.

Divorce rumor

According to The Daily Mail, rumors of Maxwell’s divorce started when New York prosecutors claimed Ghislaine Maxwell married technology entrepreneur Scott Borgerson in 2016. The New York prosecutors also claimed that since Maxwell was arrested in July 2020 their four-year marriage has been “on the rocks”.

The New York Post reported Ghislaine Maxwell got married to Scott Borgerson in secret in 2016, but the couple was heading for divorce by July 2020. During a motion to oppose Maxwell’s bail of $28.5 million, Epstein’s alleged madam told the pretrial services that Maxwell was “in the process of divorcing her husband” according to Assistant US Attorney Maurene Comey, Alison Moe, and Laura Pomerantz.

After Ghislaine Maxwell’s arrest, prosecutors claimed she allegedly didn’t come forward about her planned divorce when she proposed a bail package where she claimed: “her marriage was a tie that would keep her in the United States”.

According to The Daily Mail, Ghislaine Maxwell’s failed marriage would kill any chances of her bail because there would be nothing keeping her in the United States of America. The New York Prosecutors believe she will flee back to her home in the United Kingdom if she gets the chance. The New York Post also reported that despite Maxwell’s divorce rumor, her finances were definitely going to keep her in jail.

Current chances for bail?

According to The Daily Mail, New York prosecutors believe that Ghislaine Maxwell’s offer for bail will most likely be denied as if Maxwell has no other ties to the United States of America. However, Insider has reported that Maxwell’s renewed new bail application asks for permission to “live with an individual who isn’t her spouse”.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s representative and the British PR in charge of Maxwell’s bail campaign, Brain Basham argued Maxwell should be able to have bail despite her marriage. Per The Daily Mail, Basham stated that Maxwell’s marriage had “little weight” when her previous bail application in July was denied.

Brian Basham told prosecutors Ghislaine Maxwell’s marriage to Scott Borgerson is still solid, asserting they have no plan to be separated or divorced. Basham stated: “All will become clear in due course as the court processes grind through. There is no question of them (Maxwell & Basham) divorcing. They are a devoted and mutually supportive couple.”

To add to Ghislaine Maxwell’s bail campaign, her husband Scott Borgerson has sent a letter to the court expressing that his wife is a very “wonderful and loving person”.

Although Ghislaine Maxwell has a secret marriage, we will have to wait and see if the court will allow Maxwell to receive bail alongside her husband. Maxwell’s trial date has been set for July 12, 2021.
