The case of JonBenet Ramsey is one that continually looks like it will remain unsolved. Here's everything we know about Ramsey's case.

The JonBenét Ramsey case: Will her killer ever be found?

The case of JonBenét Ramsey is one that continually looks like it will remain unsolved. Will we ever know who killed the little girl so brutally? As the decades pass, the answer looks less and less likely. It’s horrible and unfair, of course. For those involved in true crime, however, JonBenét Ramsey’s murder may remain unsolved.

The search for JonBenét Ramsey’s killer has taken a lot of interesting twists and turns over the years. From false confessions to debate on the DNA evidence found at the crime scene to suspecting Ramsey’s family for having a hand in her death, there still seems to be more questions and answers for the general public.

There are, of course, ways for the case to be solved. It takes that one crucial tip or that one piece of evidence being reexamined to get the killer once and for all. Sometimes cases are solved after 50 years of having no answers. It’s insane odds for JonBenét Ramsey’s killer to be found, but not impossible ones.

And there are more questions than answers in regard to her death. As we try to figure out just what happened to little JonBenét Ramsey Dec. 26, 1996, these are just some of the questions that we wanted answered.

Why were JonBenét Ramsey’s parents indicted?

In 1999, a Colorado grand jury did vote to indict the Ramsey parents on two counts of child abuse in regard to the death of JonBenét Ramsey. The charges, however, were never followed through by the DA’s office. No one learned of this indictment until 2013. The question remains, why were they charged exactly? Why did nothing ever come from the indictment?

What did the grand jury hear to hand over the indictment that the public hasn’t heard? A popular theory of JonBenét Ramsey’s death is that her family had something to do with it. There are two subtheories to this. One is that JonBenét Ramsey’s mother Patsy killed her daughter. The second is that Ramsey’s nine-year-old brother Burke killed his sister.

Police have said that they never considered Burke Ramsey a suspect. A psychologist would also go on the record to say that the Ramsey family had good relationships with each other. Still, for some, the question remains: what did the jury hear to convince them otherwise?

Touch DNA evidence will rule out the Ramsey family from her death, though. Even if there are a lot of questions about that indictment.

What was with the note?

JonBenét Ramsey was initially that of a missing person. People believed that Ramsey was abducted for ransom based on a note left at the scene. The note was odd, asking for the amount of money that John Ramsey received as a Christmas bonus that year. There were spelling mistakes on common words, but harder words were spelled perfectly. The note, honestly, didn’t make a lot of sense.

Likely, the time the note was found, JonBenét Ramsey was already dead. So why was it written? How did someone know the intimate details of the Ramsey family? Why? The note remains deeply perplexing to everyone who’s looked into the case of JonBenét Ramsey’s death. For good reason, nothing makes sense about the note.

Was it really an intruder that killed her?

If the death of JonBenét Ramsey wasn’t due to her family. The only other major theory in the case is that someone broke in and killed her. The question is . . . how? The intruder theory seems as likely as anything else in this case.

In the basement room where JonBenét’s body was found, there was an unidentified boot print. There were ways for a person to get into the Ramsey home without resorting to forced entry: windows left slightly ajar, a broken window, an unlocked door. JonBenét was also a well-decorated child beauty queen. . . those kinds of events can attract pedophiles.

Still, though, you have to wonder. How was someone able to break into the house, take a little girl from her bed, kill her in another part of the house, and slip out without anyone being the wiser for it? There are so many holes in that theory, but it seems as likely as anything else in that case.
