His next match: When is Conor McGregor’s comeback fight?

Connor McGregor fans rejoice! The Irish superstar is preparing to make a monumental return to the octagon at UFC 257. Here are all the details regarding McGregor’s next fight.

McGregor’s comeback fight

“The Notorious” is scheduled to fight Dustin Poirier on January 23rd, according to TheMacLife. His comeback fight will probably take place at the Yas Islands in Abu Dhabi.

Earlier this year, the thirty-two-year-old announced he is stepping away from mixed martial arts – which is something he had also done in 2016 and 2019.

“Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting,” McGregor wrote on Twitter. “Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my world title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours.”

Conor McGregor has been absent from the octagon ever since his remarkable forty-second victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 246. He took to social media to voice the reason behind his decision to retire.

The Irishman stated that he was fed up with UFC ignoring his requests. “After being ignored on the three dates I put forward (three consecutive dates I might add! Would have had me at four fights this calendar year) Followed then by being sidelined because no crowds in attendance, I said f*** this and bounced,” read his post per Sports Casting.

McGregor vs. Poirer

McGregor’s next fight against Poirer won’t be the first time the two have faced off in a matchup. The two previously put up their dukes in a featherweight matchup back in 2014, in which McGregor dispatched Poirer by TKO in the first round.

Naturally, McGregor will be raring to win the match, as the winner will likely get a shot at the lightweight title.

“I am very grateful to be about to return and get to do what I love again,” McGregor was quoted saying last month per Guardian. “I look forward to the fresh test Dustin will bring since our first bout, while also showcasing my own incredibly deep cache of weapons. Whatever tool is needed on the night will be pulled from the duffel.”

McGregor in the best form

The Irishman is leaving no stone unturned in preparation for his next fight. Conor McGregor’s longtime agent, Audie Attar, stated in an interview with National that the Irishman is looking the best he has in almost a decade, the time Attar’s been with the UFC star.

Attar revealed, “This is the best Conor I’ve seen ever, and I’ve been with him almost a decade now. It’s the mental fortitude, the emotional intelligence, the self-awareness, the time he’s spending with his kids in between sessions and what that does to him”.

Attar added that McGregor is not only in his best shape for the fight but is also eager for the bout. “It’s the reflection of everything that’s happened to us to date – the good, the bad, and the ugly – having a level of wherewithal and foresight to understand what we need to do going forward to achieve the goals we have now. I’ve never seen Conor like this”.

“It’s about the challenge, the competition, being the best version of ourselves. Not just the body, but the mind and the soul as well. And that’s fun for me to see,” he added.

Attar believes “the Notorious” has improved his skills and is set to emerge victorious in his bout next month. While talking about McGregor’s level of preparation, Attar said, “The skill level is on another level. It really is, on all fronts. He’s focused fully on the task at hand. And you can see that”.
