Stuck inside? All the best Netflix Korean dramas to bingewatch

We’re all finding ourselves with a lot of free time on our hands. While we’re in quarantine, people are turning to Netflix, video games, or books to keep themselves entertained during the long hours inside of the house. If you’ve heard of people talk about Korean dramas, then maybe you’re looking to check those out.

What K-drama to choose though? There are many to check out online. It can be a little overwhelming for a newbie to untangle it all. Here are some of our favorite Korean dramas on Netflix that you can check out. 

Nightmare High (2016)

Korean dramas can have a lot of episodes, which is a commitment if you’re getting into the scene. Nightmare High is a series on the shorter side with only 12 episodes to watch. If you like series such as American Horror Story, Scream, or Haunting of Hill House, the Nightmare High is a good place to begin.

Nightmare High follows a class of Korean students, whose teacher had an accident. When a mysterious new substitute teacher arrives, however, things start to get weird. One of the students is desperate to figure out why this is happening before it’s too late. 

Hello My Twenties (2016-17)

If you’re looking for a slice of life relatable series about taking those first steps into adulthood, then look no further than Hello My Twenties. The series is full of relatable and charming characters along with a genuine sweetness and charm to it. We follow the exploits of five housemates and close friends with different interests, personalities, and life experiences as they just live their lives.

The series proved to be extremely popular, netting a second season. It has 26 episodes as well so it’s not a huge time commitment. Right now, we just need the affirming power of friendship and a sweet everyday narrative to get us through. This is a perfect series for that.

Boys Over Flowers (2009) 

Teen drama aficionado? Boys Over Flowers is your first stop on the K-drama train then. This 2009 series is a staple and insanely charming as well. The series follows a working-class girl who is offered a scholarship to attend a prestigious high school. While there, she attracts the attention of the F4, a group of handsome and wealthy boys who rule the school, when she stands up to their leader. 

Boys Over Flowers was one of the most popular K-dramas in 2009. It still has a strong and dedicated fan base over a decade after its airing. Many K-drama fans consider it essential viewing as well. 

Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (2019)

If period dramas are more your thing, then Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung promises to be a fun watch. During the Joseon Dynasty, where women are underestimated, a free-spirited noblewoman remains single and dedicated to her studies, especially in history. She meets a prince, who moonlights as a romance novelist, and sparks fly. 

The series lasted for 40 episodes, but beautiful costumes, charming leads, and a look at gender politics during the Joseon Dynasty definitely makes it a gripping watch. For any period drama fan hoping to make a jump to K-dramas, this is the perfect place to start. 

Itaewon Class (2020)

Itaewon Class follows a young man who was expelled from school and wrongfully imprisoned for three years after confronting the wealthy CEO responsible for his father’s death. Now he has plans to open his own bar in Itaewon, a neighborhood of Seoul, and take down his enemies within a major food conglomerate. 

With a crew of colorful friends, a former crush working for the enemy, and a popular blogger love interest, life gets very colorful and complicated in this coming of age story. It’s charming, full of memorable characters, and a fun 18-episode watch.
