Is Nelly selling this abandoned mansion to improve his net worth?
We haven’t heard from Nelly in a while, but now he announced that he is selling his rugged mansion in his childhood neighborhood. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the “My Place” rapper is currently sitting at a net worth of $20 million, so why do fans think he needs the money? Here’s everything we know.
Why is Nelly famous?
If you don’t know the “Dilemma” rapper by now, Nelly’s real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. who was born in Austen, Texas. We also know Nelly as the rapper who started his career in 1999 with Universal Music. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Nelly immediately released his album Country Grammar and became one of the most famous rappers of the early 2000s.
Nelly also moved on to win multiple Grammy Awards and went on to release five solo albums. The rapper even acted alongside Adam Sandler & Chris Rock in The Longest Yard. Since then, the rapper journeyed to acting and featured in episodes of CSI:NY and the BET series Real Husbands of Hollywood.
Nelly’s net worth
Nelly’s net worth skyrocketed thanks to his music & acting career. However, the rapper tried to branch out and released his classic fitness DVD (remember those) titled Celebrity Sweat.
Nelly’s fitness adventure didn’t earn him millions like his music career, but he continued to venture into other businesses like his clothing lines Vokal & Apple Bottoms, and live performances. Celebrity Net Worth reported that in July 2010 Nelly performed with Brad Paisley at a drive-in concert at Hollywood Park Amphitheater in St. Louis.
Unfortunately for the star rapper, everything went downhill in 2015 when his tour bus was pulled over in Tennessee. According to one of the Tennessee Highway Patrol officers, the bus was wreaking with marijuana which was eventually found alongside other drugs and guns. He was arrested and was charged with drug possession and more.
The following year, the IRS charged Nelly with a $2.4 million tax lien for avoiding his taxes. And just when Nelly thought it was over, he was arrested in 2017 for allegedly raping a woman on his tour bus, but the charges were dropped.
Nelly’s money mattered
Nelly wasn’t always in trouble, as he actually runs a nonprofit called 4Sho4Kids Foundation alongside a campaign in 2003 to educate American minorities about bone marrow transplants. The campaign was close to his heart and his sister Jackie actually died from leukemia in 2005.
Nelly’s net worth helped him raise money for various charities and helped students with scholarships and named a scholarship after the late Michael Brown who was killed by police brutality back in 2014.
The “Just a Dream” rapper continued to give back to the world in 2010 when he raised awareness for the Tackle Hunger campaign which was reportedly sponsored by the nonprofit Do Something.
Since then, the celebrity has co-founded a music production school with Vatterott College in St. Louis. Nelly also sold his $740,000 home that was featured on the best home TV series MTV Cribs in 2010.
Haunted house
According to The New York Post, Nelly’s Wildwood, Missouri mansion has been sitting without any residents for approximately twenty years. Now “Hot in Here” the rapper has put his lonely property on the market for less than a million dollars.
Nelly originally bought the abandoned mansion in 2002 and always wanted to give the home an upgrade, but once Nelly’s career took off it looked like he forgot all about his Missouri home.
As reported by TMZ, Nelly is done with the property and wants nothing to do with it. He is selling the six-bedroom, seven-bedroom mansion with twelve acres of land and even a basketball court, for a super low price. Though the home hasn’t had any visitors in a while, those who drive by get the view of Meramec River Valley and the mansion is situated only a half-and-hour from St. Louis.
The New York Post noted that Nelly’s property was actually bought for $2,499,000! This must’ve been easy for the singer’s net worth back in the early 2000s, but he has lowered the price to only $600,000. Nelly has also hired Sarah Tadlock to sell the home, but since the mansion has been empty for such a long time, will Tadlock be able to make it feel like a home again?
