Did John Mayer upset ex-girlfriends with his opinions about Britney Spears?
John Mayer, noted D-bag, needs to sit down and shut-up, okay? He’s been making comments about the Framing Britney Spears documentary that have people digging up those receipts in order to make him stop talking, especially in regards to his ex-girlfriends. Why? Did he say something not great about Britney? Because we need to just leave her alone.
Instead, however, John Mayer made comments about how Spears was treated by the industry at large, especially in regard to the media. Mayer, however, has made some comments about his girlfriends in the past. It just makes him look like he’s saying these things in order to appear cool & woke, you know? People have some receipts saved up on Mayer’s past comments.
Here’s what you need to know.
What John Mayer said
John Mayer appeared on Andy Cohen’s show on SiriusXM where he said the following on the Framing Britney Spears documentary. He said, “I almost cried five times during that. I mean, I was on the edge of tears five times, because if you understand what this business/industry/lifestyle does to a person. To go through this and come out the other side OK, is to have infinite grace for those who struggle with it.”
Mayer added, “I came out OK. . . . I have a very strong feeling that part of that is because I’m a man. And I have a very strong feeling that a lot of these things that happen to female performers is endemic to being female.” Sounds legit, right? Another celebrity coming out in support of Britney Spears. That is, however, without taking into account his previous actions in regard to his ex-girlfriends.
Jessica Simpson deserved better than you, John Mayer
After this, people are digging into his past treatment of women starting with Jessica Simpson, who John Mayer dated in the 2000s. Simpson wrote about his terrible treatment to her in her memoir (which you should all read). And let’s look at what Mayer said about the first of his famous ex-girlfriends to Playboy back in 2010. And…ugh.
“Sexually it was crazy. That’s all I’ll say. It was like napalm, sexual napalm. Did you ever say, ‘I want to quit my life and just fucking snort you? If you charged me $10,000 to fuck you, I would start selling all my shit just to keep fucking you.'” Keep it classy. Also in the interview, Mayer would say the n-word and call his dick “a white supremacist”. He would later apologize to Simpson, who did not accept.
The attention, according to Simpson, started her down a path of alcohol dependence. “Again and again, he told me he was obsessed with me, sexually and emotionally.” Yikes.
Taylor Swift also deserves better too
John Mayer then dated Taylor Swift when he was 32 and she was 19. And while we try not to judge relationships with a big age gap, Mayer’s comments make us a little skeeved out. Many people point out the “crazy & boy obsessed” Taylor Swift narrative was originally created by John Mayer, which is creepy. In her song “Dear John”, Swift pointed out that she was probably too young to date him.
Mayer said, “I will say as a songwriter that i think that’s kind of cheap songwriting. I know she’s the biggest thing in the world, and I’m not trying to sink anyone’s ship, but I think that it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait until he gets a load of this!’”
It also didn’t help the perception of Taylor Swift in the media. So, you know, John Mayer contributed to negative portrayals of his ex-girlfriends in the media. Maybe he needs to do a little bit of his own soul-searching if Framing Britney Spears choked him up so much.
