If you are planning to go on a sailing holiday around Croatia, then there are certain things that you need to keep in mind. They are:

Sailing Rating

Simple navigation, warm and clear water, and nice winds are responsible for making this place ideal for sailing. Large marinas are present in abundance so it is really easy to find a place for getting moored up.

Time

The sailing season continues from March to October. If you go before mid-May, you won’t find it fun to swim because the sea isn’t warm enough during this time. The peak season lasts from July to August. But you will find the busiest crowds in the Marinas and the charter fees are also the most expensive during this season.

Minimum Requirements

You will be needing an ICC or above for chartering boat for sailing around Croatia. You will be needing more qualifications for chartering a big Catamaran. You can convert a RYA DaySkipper or anything equivalent into an ICC. Additionally, one of the crew members need to have a VHF qualification. In case you don’t have the required qualifications, you will be provided with a professional DaySkipper.

Visa Requirements

It is a part of EU. So, EU and UK passport holders don’t require any visa and can travel at their free will. Australian and US passport holders don’t require any Visa, unless they are planning to stay there for more than 90 days.

How to Go

There are several airports across Greece which are well-connected to the other parts of Europe. The four main airports located along the coast of Croatia are Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, and Pula. All of these airports are well-connected with the other parts of Europe. You can also take a flight to Zagreb, the capital city. But then you will need to take a couple of hours drive to reach the coast.

All the marinas located in Pula are just within a 20 to 30-minute drive from the Pula airport. The base located in Dubrovnik is a 35-minute drive from the Dubrovnik airport. You can reach the rest of the bases from either the Split airport or the Zadar airport. The nearest base will take you around 10 – 15 minutes to reach, whereas the farthest base will take you around 90 minutes to reach.
