Interviewer: Hello Sabine, thank you for joining us again. Today, we’d like to talk about the interior design trends for 2024. Can you share with us what you think will be the biggest trends in home design for the upcoming year?
Sabine Hildebrandt-Rau: Yes, of course. One trend that I think will continue to be popular is the use of natural materials. We’re seeing a lot of interest in raw wood, stone, and earthy textures, as well as a focus on sustainable and eco-friendly materials. Another trend that I think will be big is the use of bold, vibrant colors. After years of muted neutrals and pastels, people are craving something a bit more daring and adventurous.
That sounds exciting! What about patterns and prints? Will they be making a comeback in 2024?
Yes, I think we’ll be seeing a lot more pattern and print in the coming year. We’re already seeing a lot of interest in bold geometric patterns, as well as more organic, nature-inspired prints. There’s also a growing trend towards mixing and matching patterns to create a more eclectic and personalized look.
What about the overall style of home design? Will we be seeing a shift towards a particular style in 2024?
I think we’ll continue to see a mix of different styles, as people are increasingly interested in creating spaces that reflect their own unique personalities and tastes. That being said, I do think there will be a renewed interest in Art Deco-inspired design, with its bold geometric shapes and luxurious materials.
Are there any particular materials or finishes that will be popular in 2024?
I think we’ll be seeing a lot of interest in brass and gold finishes, which add a touch of glamour and luxury to any space. We’re also seeing a growing interest in terrazzo, which is a type of composite material made from marble or granite chips mixed with cement. It has a very distinctive look and can be used for everything from flooring to countertops.
Finally, what advice do you have for someone who wants to incorporate these trends into their home design?
My advice would be to start by identifying the trends that resonate with your own personal style. Don’t feel like you have to incorporate every trend into your design – instead, focus on creating a space that feels authentic and true to you. And don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things – after all, home design should be a fun and creative process!
That’s great advice. And what about those who might be on a tighter budget or don’t want to completely overhaul their space? Are there any smaller changes they can make to incorporate these trends?
Absolutely. One easy way to update your space without breaking the bank is to incorporate accessories that reflect current trends. For example, you could add a bold patterned rug or a few throw pillows in a vibrant color. Or, you could add a statement piece of furniture in a brass or gold finish, like a side table or a floor lamp. Small changes like these can make a big impact on the overall look and feel of your space.
Are there any trends that you personally find particularly exciting?
I’m particularly excited about the growing interest in sustainability and eco-friendliness in home design. I think it’s important to prioritize the health of our planet as we create beautiful and functional spaces. I’m also excited about the use of unexpected materials, like recycled glass or repurposed wood, to create truly unique and innovative designs.
That’s wonderful to hear. Thank you so much for sharing your insights with us today, Sabine. We look forward to seeing these trends come to life in the homes of many in 2023.
Thank you for having me. It’s been a pleasure.
