Like a good dark humor joke? These video games are full of them
Sometimes we all need a less than savory outlet. A few uncouth jokes are sometimes exactly what we need to blow off a little steam. However, it can feel difficult to find an appropriate time or place for those less palatable, dark jokes.
Video games can be great for this. There are plenty of video games with dark humor and jokes of a rated ‘R’ equivalency. If you’re looking for something like that we’ve put together a list of games you can play to get a guilty chuckle.
Who’s Your Daddy?
A little indie game created by Evil Tortilla Games, Who’s Your Daddy? is a dark humor masterpiece. The entire game premise is morbid – one player plays as a baby and another player is the father.
Whoever plays the baby has one goal: kill yourself as fast as possible in any method you can muster. Drinking bleach, crawling into an oven – the list goes on. The player tasked with being the father must attempt to prevent the baby’s death at all costs.
If this sounds like a game you may want to play with your friends you’ll be thrilled to know the game is currently being remade and you can apply to help playtest it. You can find the game on Steam.
BitLife
A free phone app available for Android and iPhones, BitLife is easy to start playing and hard to put down. You play as a character throughout their life from birth to death with random events and a lot of different options available to you – from adopting pets and beating up fellow school children to getting a degree or working as a porn set janitor it’ll feel like there’s no limits to what you can do.
It’s the only time you’ll laugh when you read the sentence “you now have depression”.
Just be careful that you don’t hire a bad doctor for plastic surgery – nobody likes a botched penis enlargement. There’s definitely no humor in that. 😏
People Playground
People Playground is a sandbox game where you can set up whatever kind of scenario you want. Granted, the game seems to assume you’re going to create some sadistic and dark situations since they mostly provide you with items like tanks, guns, and knives.
The game’s Steam description says, “Shoot, stab, burn, poison, tear, vaporise, or crush ragdolls. This game is for people who enjoy throwing around ragdolls but want it to be more detailed, satisfying, and feel more free while doing so.”
If you’d like to explore your torture abilities then People Playground is the game for you.
Tropico 6
The Tropico franchise is a popular one and is currently on its sixth iteration of the game. Tropico 6 is a simulation game that allows you to lead a small island country as a dictator or a lover of peace, but the game usually ends up pushing you to dictatorship.
The game pokes fun at certain aspects of humanity and all elements of politics. The base game is $50 making it the most expensive game on our list, but it’s also the highest quality and will give you hours of playtime littered with plenty of dark jokes and many opportunities to rule with an iron fist.
Tropico 6 is available for purchase on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation. (If you want a cheaper version of Tropico you can buy the fifth game on the Epic Games store.)
Borderlands franchise
The entire Borderlands franchise is a wealth of dark humor. It’s a far future space western game with a touch of fantasy elements. Gameplay is a first person shooter and it has great characters & a compelling story.
All the games in the franchise are absolutely gold. The games in the franchise (in order of release) are: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Tales from the Borderlands, and Borderlands 3.
Tales from the Borderlands was created by a different development company and thus has a completely different playstyle, however the story is great and it’s just as fun. (It’s secretly our favorite installment of Borderlands.)
