Is ‘Resident Evil’ eight really coming in 2021? Everything to know
Resident Evil is a massively popular franchise with a series of video games, movies, comic books, novels, and even an upcoming television series reportedly in the works. Fans of the franchise have been waiting for a new installment of the video game series since the last one was released in 2017.
Luckily, fans of the horror video games won’t need to wait much longer. Today a two-and-a-half minute trailer hit the internet along with a release date. If you’ve been waiting on Resident Evil Eight, prepare your nightlights because the spooky zombie game will soon be available for purchase.
Lucky PS5 owners will be even more delighted since they can get an exclusive glimpse of the game right now. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming game.
Trailer
This new Resident Evil game is officially titled Resident Evil Village and will be number eight in the main series of games. The trailer reveals who some of the new characters will be including a well-dressed vampire family consisting of a mother & her daughters. Although the first half of the trailer leads viewers to believe that the mother may not be the one calling the shots . . .
The trailer also shows a quick cameo of a man who seems even more slippery than the vampire family, despite the fact he smiles at the camera for only a moment. His chilling smile and sunglasses covered eyes are enough to set off all kinds of goosebumps.
There’s almost no gameplay footage in the trailer, save for a brief shot of holding a gun in first person. Instead most of the video appears to consist of cutscenes. What we can surmise from this is that the graphics are positively stunning and that Ethan Winters definitely appears to be stirring up trouble once again.
Game release
The game is going to be released on May 7, 2021. This means that excited gamers only have to wait a few more months before delving into Resident Evil Eight.
The game will be available for pretty much anyone no matter how you choose to game. Village will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, as well as last gen consoles – the PS4 & the Xbox One.
If you find yourself unable to get your hands on a new console before Village comes out, but still want to play the game, then great news – when you upgrade consoles you’ll be able to play the game on your new console without paying for the game again. After all, you already own it.
Exciting news for PS5 owners
If you’re dying to get a hands-on look at Resident Evil Eight and can’t fathom waiting until May seventh, then you better hope you own a PS5. Owners of the latest PlayStation console can play a demo of the game, while everyone else is out of luck. (Well, there’s probably a let’s play video of the entire demo out there somewhere . . .)
The demo is called Maiden. In it you play as an unnamed character – the maiden – who is trying to escape from a dungeon. (The vampire family’s perhaps?)
The demo is reportedly rather simple since it doesn’t want to give away too much about the upcoming game as far as plot or mechanics go, but it’s certainly enough to get the blood pumping and the hype train rolling.
