Twitter says Pedialyte is the ultimate homemade hangover cure. Is it?
Post-holiday hangovers are the dreadful consequences of partying. The nausea, the headaches, and the overall grogginess are symptoms no one wants to experience.
There are ways to prevent a hangover, though. In advance to New Year’s, people on Twitter gave their verdicts about homemade hangover cures. There were a variety of opinions, but there was a strong consensus for Pedialyte, a drink typically marketed to kids over the age of one.
What do you guys recommend for hangovers? I’m trying to see double on New Year’s Eve but I want to be good In the am 😩😂

Cardi B schooled on homemade hangover cures
On Dec. 29, Cardi B tweeted about her concerns for New Year’s Eve. She said she wanted to drink a lot, but feared she’d have to deal with a hangover: “What do you guys recommend for hangovers? I’m trying to see double on New Year’s Eve but I want to be good in the am.”
Fans replied with an array of solutions, but Pedialyte was among the most popular.
What is Pedialyte?
Pedialyte is an over-the-counter drink meant to help with dehydration in both children & adults. It can be consumed when people experience loss of fluids from sickness, exercise, exposure to heat, and alcohol use.
Pedialyte contains quite a few ingredients. There are also a number of flavors and types which contain different ingredients. Some of the most prominent components in the standard version include water, zinc, dextrose, and electrolytes. According to Healthline, electrolytes are minerals that help with nerve function, pH, and water balance.

Pedialyte as a homemade hangover cure
Healthline reported Pedialyte is commonly used as a homemade hangover cure, but there isn’t much clinical evidence it actually works for that purpose. Although not much scientific research has been done on Pedialyte as a hangover cure, anecdotally many people claim it works for them.
Hangovers can be caused by a number of factors, such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, digestive upset, drops in blood sugar, sleep disruption, taking other drugs while drinking, and alcohol withdrawal. Healthline says it’s possible Pedialyte can help with hangovers through some causes, such as dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and low blood sugar.
drinking tip: chug a whole entire bottle of pedialyte, Gatorade or Powerade b4 you drink! you will not have a hangover the next morning i promise you 🤓

Pedialyte vs. Gatorade
Other drinks besides Pedialyte claim to help with electrolyte imbalances caused by dehydration. One Twitter user said Pedialyte works as a homemade hangover cure, but so do some sports drinks.
Healthline says Gatorade contains similar ingredients to Pedialyte such as water, dextrose, and electrolytes. Studies haven’t been done on Gatorade as a hangover cure either, but it could help with dehydration just like Pedialyte. Pedialyte does contain less calories, though.
Drink Pedialyte and pop a couple Vitamin C’s BEFORE you start drinking. Then just make sure you drink water between drinks/shots. @iamcardib 💕

Make Pedialyte more effective
One person on Twitter gave a few tips to Cardi B in addition to drinking Pedialyte as a homemade hangover cure. This Twitter user says to do a few other steps before and after a night of drinking:
“Drink Pedialyte and pop a couple Vitamin C’s BEFORE you start drinking. Then just make sure you drink water between drinks/shots. Ramen noodles with protein, & veggies, sesame seed oil and Sriracha to kill sour stomach, BC Powder, Ginger Ale and water for hangovers.”
Healthline says other ways to get rid of hangovers include drinking lots of fluids, eating, using over-the-counter pain relievers, and getting sleep. To prevent hangovers in the first place, Healthline recommends staying hydrated while drinking, eating food before and while drinking, limiting carbonated drinks, and avoiding drinking too much or too fast.
