Devo Debuts Documentary at Sundance Film Festival Paired with Special Performance at The Marquis Park City and VIP Film Dinner at ChefDance Social Presented by Space Perspective
In 1980, new wave band Devo scored a hit with “Whip It” and gained mainstream success with their message of societal “de-evolution,” formed in response to the 1970 Kent State shootings. The band has went on to decades of notoriety with a loyal and ever-growing fanbase of followers across all ages and generations, that continue to cumulate at their one-of-a-kind live performances.
The documentary marks an extremely special and full circle moment for the band, who celebrated their festival debut with an unforgettable evening kicking off with a dinner at ChefDance Social presented with Space Perspective followed by an elaborate, iconic performance at The Marquis Park City in partnership with LNE Presents. Directed by Chris Smith and starring Devo lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh, they debuted their documentary at the Sundance Film Festival on Monday, January 22, 2024 to much anticipation and excitement.
Devo celebrated “50 Years of De-Evolution” by marking the occasion with a special dinner celebrating their self-titled documentary at ChefDance Social presented by Space Perspective and curated by ChefDance Social founders Mimi Kim and Kenny Griswold, longtime friends of the band who first performed at the festival in 1996. Guests at the special dinner such as Paul Oakenfold and actor Joel Michaely enjoyed a four course meal presented by partner Space Perspective, prior to an incredible performance at the all new music venue and Main Street destination in partnership with LNE Presents, The Marquis Park City in honor of their documentary in the festival, Devo, honoring “50 Years of De-Evolution.”
During the dinner guests could engage with Space Perspective VR interactive experience and partook in an engaging presentation from innovating Founder and Co-CEO Jane Poynter. Accolades by ChefDance founders Mimi Kim and Kenny Griswold, as well as a photo call with DEVO and meet and greet with VIP dinner guests. Space Perspective is aimed at making it possible for anyone that is interested in the opportunity to join their explorer community and travel to space, in the world’s only carbon-neutral spaceship.
The dinner featured 4 courses inclusive of Grilled Artichokes with pear butter poached pears and sun choke paired with salsa verde and fried capers, Burrata with sweet peppers and arugula with tomato conserva, Ricotta Gnocchi with mushrooms, formaggio, black garlic, truffle, marsala for Entree, and for Dessert, Crema Catalan with fresh berries.(https://chefdancesocial.com/)

Following the intimate dinner, they played an hour long set at The Marquis Park City for a room full of red-topped DEVO fans and filmmakers at the new state of the art music venue in partnership with LNE Presents, which officially opened its doors for Sundance 2024 in Park City, Utah.
The concert included a packed house of 1200 guests, on hand for the legendary Devo show, set to an impressive LED screen behind the band, and an incredible lighting and sound experience.
Devo played all of their classic hits for the adoring crowd, inclusive of their signature dance moves and over the top animation.
