Our fave quarantine couple: Did Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas break up?
2020 has spelled the end for many couples over the past year. After all, living in a quarantine bubble with someone, well . . . it can get a bit dicey. Couples breaking up – whether famous or not – isn’t always surprising in the long-term. Nothing tests a relationship like a long-term quarantine in a global pandemic. Just ask Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas.
In 2020, it was announced that Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas were dating. The 48-year-old Affleck, of course, is well-known for such films like Argo and Justice League. The thirty-two-year-old de Armas broke out in 2019 with her role in Knives Out and upcoming roles No Time to Die, Deep Water, Blonde. A year into their romance, however, the two have broken up.
Brief timeline
Speculation of Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas’ relationship began in March 2020 when the couples were spotted together out and about in Cuba, where de Armas is from. She reportedly played tour guide with Affleck. A source told People, “ He was in a great mood and very friendly. He was approached by fans multiple times and happily posed for pictures. They visited several restaurants and enjoyed Cuban cuisine.”
They were seen together over the course of 2020 attending a Black Lives Matter protest in June 2020. They also reportedly went to Georgia to spend time with Affleck’s mother and his three children, whom he shares custody with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. A source said, “Ana seems to love being around his kids. Everyone has been getting along great. Ana is making an effort to get to know his kids.”
Everything sounded like it was going well between Affleck and de Armas. So what brought things to an end? Honestly? They were just at different points of their lives.
Reason for the break-up
Before everyone gets up in arms over the break-up, a source told People that it was a totally mutual decision between the couple. “This is something that was mutual and something that is completely amicable. They are in different points in their lives; there is deep love and respect there. Ben continues to want to work on himself. He has three jobs lined up and he’s a solid father at home.”
The source reiterates, “They are both happy with where they are in their lives.” Basically, it came down that de Armas didn’t want to be Los Angeles-based and wanted to focus on her career. Affleck, however, wanted to focus on his children, who live in LA. So, obviously, Affleck has to be there for his kids.
It was de Armas who wanted to break it off, according to a source. It sounds like they were both adults about the break-up. Honestly, it went as well as a break-up could go between a couple, you know?
What’s next?
Affleck and de Armas are both very sought-after and busy people. Affleck and de Armas are in post-production for the thriller, Deep Water which is set for a 2021 release. Affleck has upcoming roles with Hypnotic, The Tender Bar, and reprising his role as Batman in The Flash. He also has several directing projects in development as well, most recently Keeper of the Lost Cities for Disney.
Meanwhile, No Time to Die will finally be released in 2021 for de Armas along with Deep Water. She also has Blonde for Netflix, which is a fictionalized telling of the life of Marylin Monroe. She also hopes to return for Knives Out 2 if they’ll have her for it. Basically, both Affleck and de Armas are busy with a lot of interesting projects in the works.
