Ambrosia fruit salad: Check out these vintage recipes for summer
How does whipped cream for salad dressing sound? Instead of ranch or thousand island, douse your salad in the taste of a glazed doughnut. Have you ever put soft marshmallows in your salad? That’s the beauty of an Ambrosia fruit salad!
From caramel apples and chocolate covered strawberries, it’s clear to humankind that fruit & candy are like peanut butter & jelly. They just work. With the toasty summer right around the corner, salads will make the perfect feasts.
In addition to filling you up, an Ambrosia fruit salad fresh from the fridge will cool you down for noon, and we’ve found some of their best recipes!
Ambrosia fruit salad (Regular)
The Ambrosia fruit salad is very easy to make. It may not have very many ingredients but you should never let yourself feel restricted. You can make this dish out to be anything you want. Feel free to add or avoid toasted walnuts, pecans, grapes, maraschino cherries, bananas, blueberries, etc.!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of whipped cream or yogurt
- 1 cup of mini marshmallows (plain or fruit flavored)
- 1 cup of shredded coconut
- 1 can of pineapple chunks or tidbits
- 1 can of canned mandarin oranges
Instructions
- Drain all of the fruit ingredients well.
- Gather all the fruit ingredients in a large bowl.
- Carefully fold all the ingredients together.
- Mix all of the fruit together except for the canned mandarin oranges.
- Once the fruit ingredients are combined, gently fold in the mandarin oranges as they can be fragile and you don’t want them to break apart.
- Soak the fruit in the whipped cream or yogurt.
- Add the marshmallows.
- Let the fruit sit in the fridge overnight which allows the marshmallows to soak up any and all extra fruit juice.
Tropical Ambrosia Fruit Salad
Summer and the tropics are like fruit & candy. Sometimes, we may even see tropical locales as the home of the summer season. We don’t all live in the tropics, however. You know you can have your own tropical vacation right from the comfort of your own home.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup of whipped cream
- Creamy vanilla pudding cups (amount may vary but should be 4 oz each and refrigerated)
- 1 can of 8 oz of drained pineapple chunks
- 1 sliced large banana
- 1 cup of chopped up mango
- 1 cup of sliced strawberries
- 2 tablespoons of toasted coconut
Instructions
- Gather the banana, pineapple, strawberries, mango and toasted coconuts together.
- Mix the fruit ingredients together.
- Soak the fruit ingredients in the vanilla pudding and marshmallows.
- Refrigerate for several hours overnight.
Berry Ambrosia Fruit Salad
Berries will give your Ambrosia salad a darker tone with a varying hint of sweetness. Berries often make the perfect combo with cream fillings. You’ll love this very variation!
Ingredients
- 8 oz of heavy whipping cream
- 8 oz of cream cheese
- ¼ cup of granulated sugar
- 1 cup of sweetened flaked coconut
- 3 cups of chopped strawberries
- 1 ½ cup of blueberries
- 1 cup of blackberries
- 1 cup of mini marshmallows
Instructions
- Get a large bowl and whisk together.
- Whip the heavy cream for one minute, or until the cream is thickened and stiff peaks form.
- Take the whipped cream to a smaller bowl and set it aside.
- In the large bowl, gather the cream cheese and sugar together and mix them on medium speed until they’re creamy.
- Fold the whipped cream and coconut into the cream cheese mixture.
- Mix in all the berries and the marshmallow and coat with the cream cheese mixture.
- Refrigerate overnight.
