Amy Winehouse: Set photo reveals why this biopic should be the last

Amy Winehouse was a beloved British icon well known for her unique voice and popular songs which are still played frequently by people worldwide. It’s no surprise a biopic about the tragic musician is set to release.

Should this biopic even be made or is it just a ploy to make more money from a tragic death? Let’s take a look at the recent set photos and why this film should be Winehouse’s last biopic.

The life and loves of Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse rose to fame in the early 2000s with her unique mix of jazz, soul, and R&B. Her music has been a source of inspiration for many artists since her passing in 2011 and her influence can still be seen today. Despite her huge success in the music industry, Amy’s personal life was often overshadowed by personal struggles that led to an untimely death at the age of 27. This article will take a look into the life and loves of Amy Winehouse and what ultimately led to her demise.

Born on September 14th, 1983 in Southgate, London, Amy was raised by her parents Janis & Mitch Winehouse. She had one brother, Alex, who she was very close to growing up. Music was always an important part of Amy’s life; her father was a taxi driver but also a talented jazz musician so naturally, she grew up listening to different genres from an early age. At 16 years old Amy left school and pursued a career as a singer-songwriter.

In 2004, at age 21, Amy released her first studio album Frank which received critical acclaim from critics across the world. It featured hits such as “Stronger Than Me” and “Take The Box” both of which have since become classics. Later that year she began dating journalist Blake Fielder-Civil who became one of the main influences in her life during this time period. They went on to marry in 2007 but their relationship quickly deteriorated due to Blake’s drug addiction and violent behavior toward Amy.

Their divorce was finalized two years later in 2009 but they remained close friends until his death in 2018 due to alcohol-related causes.

Over the course of her career, Amy had relationships with other men such as Alex Clare (who co-wrote “Love Is A Losing Game”) and film producer Reg Traviss (who directed the 2006 documentary about Amy). However, none compared to her turbulent relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil which has been documented extensively over the years including the 2015 Oscar-nominated documentary Amy directed by Asif Kapadia.

The film explores heartbreaking details concerning their relationship as well as substance abuse problems that plagued both parties throughout its entirety leading up to the tragic end result we all know today. Sadly despite immense success throughout her career, it ultimately ended too soon when she passed away on July 23rd, 2011 due to excessive alcohol consumption at the young age of 27.

While there are no shortage of tragedies concerning the short lives of iconic musicians, the story infamous singer-songwriter still resonates deeply with the fragility of our human condition and how fragile even the most successful lives can be. Her legacy continues to live through music and remains a major influence industry for decades to come.

Back to Black

Named after Amy Winehouse’s most iconic song, this StudioCanal-produced biopic is causing a stir amongst fans. The latest photos from the set have upset fans of the late singer as they depict a messy and clearly unhinged Winehouse. Despite having an incredibly successful career, it seems she’s unable to escape the negative depictions of her life.

Sam Taylor-Johnson (known for directing Fifty Shades of Grey) will be the director and it was also revealed she was a close friend of Winehouse. BAFTA-winning actor Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville have joined the ensemble cast of Amy Winehouse’s biopic Back to Black, starring Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse herself.

This new film has backing from Amy’s estate including her father Mitch Winehouse who has never been too far from controversy. Only time will tell if this movie is exploiting the late Amy Winehouse.
