When are your favorite Broadway shows returning? Check out the full list

After months of being closed, the Great White Way is finally reopening its stages. Governor Andrew Cuomo and the Broadway League announced that Broadway shows will be resuming in September, with twenty-five big Broadway shows already selling tickets for the reopening.

“Broadway is at the core of our New York identity, and a big part of our economy which employees countless performers and show creators, and beginning this September, the show will go on”, Governor Cuomo said in his announcement. Though the show will go on, some theatre fans are uncertain just which shows will be reopening their doors.

Luckily, we danced and sang our way through the internet to find which Broadway shows will be back and ready to dazzle fans once again. Start doing a few vocal warmups and dive into our list of Broadway shows that’ll be reopening.

Dear Evan Hansen

If you’re tired of waving through a window, you’re in luck because the Tony-award winning musical is back! Not only is this heartstopping show getting a movie adaptation, but the show will soon be back in its original form too—on the stage on good old Broadway.

The announcement from producer Stacey Mindich also mentioned that two other productions of the musical will also get back to breaking in gloves across the U.S. and internationally. A North American tour of the show will launch on December 7th in Greensboro, NC before visiting over thirty cities. The show will also be going across the pond to the Noël Coward Theatre in London on October 26th.

Tickets for the West End production and the Broadway production are already on sale, though the cast for the West End show has not been announced yet as auditions are still being considered. But, despite this, we are so excited for the show’s return that . . . well . . . words fail

Wicked

We couldn’t help but shout thank goodness when we saw this next show on the list. The show’s almost eighteen year run will resume alongside several other shows on September 14th, 2021 with tickets already on sale.

The iconic show’s cast included Lindsay Pearce as Elphaba, Ginna Claire Mason as Glinda, and Alexandra Billings as Madame Morrible before Broadway shows closed last year. However, no announcement has been made about the casting for the reopening.

Billings, however, did go on alongside Crystal Joy Brown, who plays Eliza in Hamilton, and L. Steven Taylor, who plays Mufasa in The Lion King on Good Morning America on May 11th, 2021, so perhaps some of the original cast will get at least one more curtain call.

Come From Away

Though the pandemic stopped the world, this show continues to be on our minds, which is why we are happy to see it included on the list of Broadway shows returning in September. The amazing show from Tony & Grammy award winning writing couple Irene Sankoff and David Hein will return with performances spanning all over the globe.

The Australian company has already resumed other performances of the high-flying show setting up to return, such as the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre production setting up to return September 21st, 2021 with tickets already on sale.

If you’re still a bit nervous about the crowds but want to experience the magic of the show, don’t worry. Along with shows like Hamilton, the show will be coming to your television screen soon as the producers plan to film a version of the show for Apple TV+. Though no release date has been set, we cannot wait for this musical to screech in and reopen on the Great White Way.
