‘Warrior Nun’: Why did Netflix cancel some of its best TV shows?

Netflix has become one of the most popular streaming services in recent years, offering viewers a convenient way to watch their favorite shows without having to leave the comfort of their own homes.
Netflix is at it yet again with another cancellation that’s hurting an entire fandom. Another YA series has bit the dust, and a whole fandom is seeking vengeance this time. Warrior Nun has faced the wrath of Netflix and has been axed after two seasons. This isn’t the only beloved show to have faced Netflix’s wrath.
Despite Emily In Paris getting multiple seasons it appears the best shows available to stream aren’t getting the same treatment. Here are the best TV shows Netflix has cancelled despite having a considerable following.
Shadowhunters
It’s been three years. Three whole years without our beloved series Shadowhunters. We are still not over the news that our favorite show was coming to an end. You could hear the Shadowfam’s rage and devastation from around the world. We were introduced to Clary, Jace, Magnus, Alec, Izzy, Simon, and more when the show first began in 2016 (yes, it was that long ago)!
Shadowhunters isn’t your average young adult supernatural show. Hell, it isn’t your average TV show period. One of the reasons why the show has made such a colossal connection with fans is in its depiction of LGBTQ+ characters and relationships and in telling a story with strong, complex female characters at the heart of it.
In our humble opinion, the supernatural teen show makes for a fantastic bingewatch – particularly if you love supernatural shows with a side of action and a healthy dose of romance.
The Society
According to Netflix, this one fell prey to the pandemic restrictions. The Society is a mystery drama based in West Ham, Conn. It follows a group of school students who return from a school trip & realize that the other residents of the town have disappeared & they’re unable to leave. So now it’s up to them to build a society.
If we could have teenage ambition & a clean slate, what would we want the rules of the new order to be? There will still be young loves, rocky friendships, and the adolescent quandary of fitting in. The cancelation of The Society was a shocker because initially, the second season was on the cards. After all, the season finale ended on a cliffhanger. Guess we’ll never know.
Warrior Nun
It revolves around a 19-year-old woman (Alba Baptista) who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. She discovers she now is part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
Warrior Nun remained in the top ten of Netflix’s best TV shows for each season release. It’s clear that the fandom is still devastated and continues to petition Netflix’s decision to cancel.
The OA
The sci-fi collaboration between Brit Marling & Zal Batmanglij was seemingly too mind-boggling for Netflix audiences, but the audience ratings were not mind-boggling enough for Netflix executives. A lot was happening in The OA. A woman who used to be blind comes in contact with telepathic octopuses, talking trees . . . the weirdness had no bounds. Netflix still pulled the plug on the show after two seasons.
