Is Emma Watson dating ‘Harry Potter’ costar Tom Felton?
As HBO Max unveiled Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, fans couldn’t help but notice the intimate bond between Emma Watson and former co-star Tom Felton. For years fans have been dying to witness Hermoine & Malfoy fall in love. Well, to the fans’ pure delight, Emma Watson revealed in the new special that she once had a childhood crush on Tom Felton!
Is Emma Watson really dating Tom Felton? Well, the answer is a bit more complicated than a simple yes or no. Here’s the full scoop on who’s dating who and if Watson & Felton were ever in a romantic relationship.
Highlights from the Harry Potter anniversary special
Fans couldn’t help but gush at the fact that Watson had a childhood crush on her co-star, Tom Felton. In the new HBO Max special, the two British actors explained how close their relationship is. However, their bond never went past being purely platonic.
“Emma and I have always loved each other, really,” Felton admitted in an aside interview. Meanwhile, Watson added, “I think really the truth of it was Tom was the one I could often be more vulnerable with.”
When Emma Watson was asked if the two of them ever acted on their feelings, the actress firmly confirmed that nothing of the sort ever occurred. “Nothing has ever, ever, ever happened romantically with us. We just love each other. That’s all I can say about that,” she said.
Emma Watson’s interview with British Vogue
Shortly after Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts was aired, British Vogue released an interview with the thirty-one-year-old actress. When asked about her relationship with Felton, Watson admitted, “We speak most weeks.”
Vogue went on to ask how Emma Watson felt about the long-lasting craze fans have over the possibility of the two actors dating. The actress simply (and kindly) stated, “We just think it’s sweet.”
Watson reminisces her Harry Potter years
Also featured in her Vogue interview was her complete joy to return to the set of Harry Potter. She explained that being back on the set after years was “like heaven.”
“I am just so happy they still exist! Most film sets are torn down the minute a scene is finished,” she said. “I am so happy they are still there for people to enjoy, me included. [Set designer] Stuart Craig is truly a genius. What he did is perfect.”
However, Watson explained that the “most emotional” moment for her was when co-star Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, told her he loved her.
“When Rupert says things, he really means them. I was taken aback by how vulnerable and kind he was deciding to be so publicly,” she said of her co-star. “Similarly for Dan [Radcliffe], it really touched me how reflective he had been over the years about how different it had been for me as a girl.”
Are the three actors still close friends?
Emma Watson detailed in her latest interview that although the three main actors don’t text much, they do “speak individually” and keep in touch when they need each other. While Grint shares sweet moments of his family with her, Radcliffe bonds with Watson over the stress of being in the limelight.
“Rupert sends me pictures of [his daughter] Wednesday and I die. Dan and I generally try and calm each other’s nerves,” she shared. “We both mainly try and stay out of the limelight so it’s been nice to have each other’s support, knowing there was going to be another wave of attention coming.”
