Know everything about EXO? Learn the craziest facts about its members
EXO is so beloved by the K-pop community they were dubbed the “Kings of K-pop” by more than one media outlet. EXO debuted in 2012 and used to be divided into two subgroups: EXO-K (Korea-based) & EXO-M (China-based). Both sub-groups performed in Chinese and Korean (and sometimes Japanese) until 2014 when their members started to dwindle due to various legal battles.
As of 2020, EXO has nine members: Suho, Xiumin, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun. They now perform as one group for SM Entertainment. They have an R&B and pop electronica vibe that’s unmistakable to EXO-Ls. After all, EXO-L stands for EXO-Love and many fans who have loved them since their beginnings still love them today, despite the exit of some members.
Each EXO member has their unique origin story, but today we want to focus on crazy and fun facts about the guys. If you haven’t yet chosen your EXO bias, now would be a good time to choose.
Kai
Kai loves to play video games and he’s also buddies with BTS’s Jimin. Kai is said to be the most hot-headed out of the EXO bunch by some. He was in a relationship with BLACKPINK’s Jennie for about a month, but SM Entertainment announced they broke up to focus on their careers. We wonder whether it was a forced breakup or not.
Japanese fans dubbed Kai “Sun-kissed Boy” because of the golden color of his skin. Kai has a habit of biting his lips and one of his favorite movies is Pirates of the Carribean. Kai is a bird-lover – when it comes to eating, that is. His favorite foods are fried chicken and roast duck.
Baekhyun
Baekhyun loves such a large variety of food that he’s unable to pick his favorite. The one food Baekhyun doesn’t like though, is cucumbers. His mother once even offered him five thousand won (about five dollars) to eat one, but Baekhyun refused. Baekhyun invented a word called “kkaepsong” which he uses to mean “what a pity”. According to Chanyeol, Baekhyun yelps about forty times before falling asleep.
Chen
Chen was the last member to join EXO-M. He sticks his tongue out whenever he laughs. Chen says if he weren’t a K-pop idol he’d be a vocal trainer. According to kprofiles.com, Chen’s known for being the friendliest member at fansign events. He’ll laugh at your jokes even if they’re corny, and he’s especially friendly to noonas (older women).
D.O.
D.O. says he got his artistic side from his father because his father owns an art business. Both his parents were very supportive of his pursuit of a musical career. D.O. is pretty shy with strangers. He prefers to be around people he knows and if he’s in the company of just the EXO members a very jokey side of himself comes out. D.O. also mothers the group a lot by cooking for them and being considerate.
Chanyeol
Chanyeol actually invented EXO’s hexagon logo. He has a habit of following rhythms with his hands and loves to do charity work. Chanyeol is slow to anger – unless he has misplaced something, in which case he goes a little berserk. But once he finds it he’s back to his cheerful self. Chanyeol is a hopeless romantic and has confessed he cries the most out of all the EXO members.
Sehun
Sehun has trouble pronouncing the letter ‘s’ which is ironic since his stage name starts with it. He said he doesn’t plan on getting married until he’s over thirty and when he does end up getting married, he wants someone who is up for doing traditional housework duties and taking care of his parents. Although Sehun is very close to Suho, he kicked him out of their dorm room because Suho was unrepentantly messy.
Suho
Suho is considered the “second Siwon” because many say he looks like Choi Siwon from Super Junior. He has a funny habit of clearing his throat by saying “Ah!” Suho is a Buddhist and the ultimate peacekeeper. He likes to settle controversy by having calm conversations and frequently checks up on his buddies to see if anything is bothering them.
Apparently Suho’s idea of a good proposal is shouting “I love you! Please accept my feelings!” in a crowded place. We hope Suho’s future girlfriend is down with such a public display. He actually says he prefers arranged marriage over a relationship he would devise for himself.
Lay
Lay was actually supposed to be the leader of EXO-M at one point, but the agency changed it to Kris. Lay has since been very successful. Some fans had doubts as to whether Lay was still in EXO since he hadn’t been showing up in many of EXO’s recent comebacks. It’s reported that he’s still very much part of EXO, but he’s just been really occupied by his solo career.
Lay had a rather troublesome incident where he landed on his face mid aerial trick during one of his rehearsals. Fans were extremely worried about him for a while because he got up after only a few minutes and said he would try again. Some think Lay works too hard and needs to take more breaks to take care of his body and health.
Xiumin
Xiumin is the cinnamon bun of EXO. One of his nicknames, Bao zi, which literally means “little bun” (although not the cinnamon kind). He has a little sister whose identity he has tried very hard to keep a secret at his mom’s request. Xiumin’s other nicknames are Mandoo and King of Detail. He has a very tidy, cute, and fun personality. He loves playing pranks on the other EXO members.
Although he was voted least likely to cry by the other EXO band members, Xiumin is afraid of cats because he was attacked by one when he was younger. According to kprofiles.com, he has a large collection of manga given to him by fans for which he is very grateful. One of his role models is Super Junior’s JJ Lin.
