When’s Jake Paul’s next fight? Check out the boxer’s full schedule
From counting subscribers to counting knockout victories, Jake Paul has officially become a professional boxer with a 3-0 record after defeating former MMA champion Ben Askren in Atlanta at the Triller Fight Club event two days ago.
The fight only lasted two minutes, with Paul sending Askren to the canvas with a single right hand. Though Askren got back up, the referee called the fight there and declared Paul the victor of the bout after he landed nine of twenty-six punches in the fight, with Askren only landing three of fourteen punches.
The victory has fans asking one question: when will the next fight be and against who? Luckily, we jabbed our way through the internet to tell you what we know about Jake Paul’s next fight. So grab your boxing gloves and step into the ring as we break down Jake Paul’s fight schedule.
Stepping into the ring
For those of you who didn’t know, Jake Paul’s fight against Askren wasn’t his first big matchup. Paul got into boxing around the same time as his brother Logan Paul, the two’s first fight being against another YouTube duo, KSI & Deji Olatunji. After his victory over Olatunji on a technical knockout, Paul wasn’t leaving the ring anytime soon.
After the Olatunji fight, Paul gained two more victories under his belt against another YouTuber, AnEsonGib, before competing on the undercard of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight, knocking out former NBA point guard Nate Robinson.
Paul has brought some of his experiences as a YouTuber to bear in the ring, becoming notorious for trash-talking his opponents both in & out of the ring. This galavanting is to the joy of his fans and the anger of his haters, but it has gotten him noticed by both those inside and outside the world of boxing.
Sideshow act
With Paul’s entrance to the ring and his. . . less than sportsman-like behavior, many boxing purists and pros are voicing their concerns.
“They’re making a mockery of boxing, OK?” Claressa Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and multiple-time world champion, who herself is preparing for an MMA debut in June, told TMZ recently.
“I just say that because there are so many fighters who deserve to be on that platform under Mike Tyson and Roy Jones that did not get that opportunity. . . Jake Paul is making his money, he’s doing his thing. But stay away from us real fighters.”
While others share Shield’s sentiments, others cannot deny that Paul has helped boxing become accessible to a younger audience, for better or worse.
In this corner. . .
The big question still remains: who will Paul take on in the ring next? While nothing has officially been announced yet, the internet has some theories.
It seems that that trash talking is coming back to haunt Paul, as both Tommy Fury and Dillion Davis, who was Conor McGregor’s sparring partner to train him for his rematch against Nate Diaz, recently issued challenges to Paul after both his victory Saturday night and the insults he threw at them as well as other big names in boxing.
Paul seems to like the idea, as he mentioned a partnered fight, with the Fury brothers facing off against Paul and Michael Hunter. Though no official fight has been scheduled, many are waiting with baited breath to see not only Paul’s latest fight, but what the YouTuber may bring to the future of the sport.
