In 2016 Mia Khalifa was the topmost searched pornstar and continued to be the second most searched pornstar in 2017. Today, even though Khalifa only worked in the porn industry for three months back in 2014, she still ranks as a signature pornstar.
Khalifa agreed to a contract with content producer BangBros, sure that her work wouldn’t stand out in the vast ocean of pornogrpahic content on the internet. However, when BangBros captured a scene of Khalifa wearing a hijab during a threesome, she quickly blew up online. Due to a surging hijab kink, Khalifa’s popularity kept growing.
Religious extremists targeted Khalifa for her performance and she started to get death threats. This pushed Khalifa to resign – never to return to the dangerous industry again. Unfortunately, a contract she signed gave WGCZ Holdings the right to use her stage name, allowing PornHub to continue to exploit her.
BangBros exploitation
Yet, Khalifa’s harrowing experience in the porn industry didn’t destroy her. In fact, she went on to become a social media personality & commentator – eventually building her net worth to $4 million. Despite what many think, that wealth did not come from her time as a pornstar – that only amounted to about $12,000.
Though her career as an XXX star ended over six years ago, Khalifa has had trouble getting the videos removed from various adult websites. Not only did BangBros basically rip off her contract, but they continue to present her videos as though they’re new.
Women’s rights activist
Instead of sitting back and letting all of this happen to her, Khalifa has fought back, doing everything she can to get justice. Khalifa launched a petition against BangBros to get them to take off all her porn videos from their websites. The petition has accumulated over 1.5 million signatures worldwide.
Khalifa’s fight isn’t just personal – many women in the adult industry face similar issues. Khalifa has used her increasingly large platform to speak out against abuse & slut-shaming and has now become an icon for women’s rights.
Mia Khalifa unknowingly wandered into the porn industry at the young age of twenty-one. The mistakes of her past continue to haunt her, despite how much she has done to try and move on. Khalifa’s experience as a naive woman falling into the trap of the porn industry has made her an essential figurehead for women’s rights.
Beirut blast activist
Khalifa stands for more than just women’s rights. Recently, after the massive explosion that occurred in Beirut, Khalifa shifted her focus to issues in Lebanon. Not only has Khalifa focused on Lebanon’s rough political situation on social media, but she has taken steps to offer aid to victims.
Mia Khalifa was actually born in Beirut, Lebanon and moved to the United States in 2001. Because she has personal ties to the city, she’s invested a lot in the now-suffering community.
Khalifa has been working with the Lebanese Red Cross to raise funds for victims of the Beirut blasts. Khalifa got creative, auctioning off personal items such as her infamous glasses & a used loofa in order to raise money.
Khalifa also dismissed poor “fireworks” coverups for the explosion, writing on Instagram, “Not Hezbollah lying to the Lebanese people about hiding explosives on our soil, saying this blast was caused by FIREWORKS. Fireworks?!”
Other activism
Khalifa’s passionate position on Lebanon isn’t her only venture into the world of philanthropy. She’s used her fame to contribute to multiple charities focusing on current issues.
After Hurricane Harvey ravaged Louisiana & Texas, Khalifa announced that she was going to donate her earrings for hurricane relief efforts. Khalifa urged others to take part in the donations as well.
Khalifa has also designed a t-shirt to encourage people to engage in the COVID-19 quarantine. The t-shirts are branded with the hashtag #STAYTHEF*HOME and she donated all profits to World Central Kitchen and their Chefs for America initiative (which was set up to provide meals to those impacted by COVID-19.)
