How to watch: Want to check out the ‘Monster Hunter’ movie?
Need a good fix of kaiju? How about some more of Milla Jovovich in a video game based movie that’s not related to Resident Evil? Good news, you can get that fix with 2020’s Monster Hunter. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, Monster Hunter follows the PC of the Hunter as they slay/trap large monsters and complete quests to gain needed loot & items.
Of course, Monster Hunter has a steep learning curve. Despite being behind Resident Evil in terms of sales for Capcom, it’s not something people really talk about. So is the movie version any good? Uh Rotten Tomatoes says no, but you can decide what you think of it. Here’s where you can watch the Monster Hunter movie.
What’s the actual movie about first?
Monster Hunter has been in development since 2012 by director (and Jovovich’s husband) Paul W. S. Anderson, who wrote, directed & produced the film. It also stars Tony Jaa, Tip “T. I.” Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung & Ron Perlman.
It follows a soldier, Lt. Artemis (Jovovich) from our world, who is transported with her team into the New World (or the world of Monster Hunter). After her team is killed, leaving her the lone survivor, she teams up with the Hunter (Tony Jaa) in order to stop the monsters from invading our reality.
That old chestnut of someone from the “real world” being sucked into the world of the game/television show/movie. Always a good plot, but it takes a lot for it to really work. And it never does with the video games.
Paid options
You can, naturally, go to a theater that is showing Monster Hunter. But given that we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic, it’s probably not the best move even if they’re implementing things to make the experience as safe as possible. The second paid option, since Sony does not have a streaming service of its very own, is to rent Monster Hunter wherever you can find it.
Amazon Video & Google Movies have the Monster Hunter movie available to rent at this time. So if VOD is something that you’re looking for, then it’s out there for you to enjoy during this time.
Of course, there are the free options as well.
The free options
Don’t feel like paying for the movie? Given the reviews of Monster Hunter (and the ticket/rental prices), we don’t blame you one bit! Luckily, there are plenty of websites where you can stream/download the movie for free so you can riff on it until your heart’s content.
The following options to stream the movie Monster Hunter without opening your wallet are: 123Movies, Moviesjoy, Stream Go, FMovies, Flixtor, Moviebox, Solarmovie, & AZMovies. Will it be on there? Probably, but given that Monster Hunter has not been talked about at all? It’s a 50-50 shot to be totally honest here. No one really knew this thing was coming out.
In fact, just stream someone playing the actual Monster Hunter game on YouTube! You’ll probably have a better experience overall. Unless you’re a connoisseur of bad movies, which fair that’s how Syfy did so well with its original films. But, honestly, we thought Monster Hunter was actually the upcoming movie Love & Monsters starring Dylan O’Brien & Jessica Henwick, which looks a lot better overall.
And honestly? It looks like a more faithful adaptation of Monster Hunter the game then the actual Monster Hunter movie, which is definitely not a good thing. Either way, this has been all the ways you can check out Monster Hunter.
