Everything you need to know about Disney+’s ‘Ms. Marvel’
The Super Bowl gave us the gift of a look at Wandavision, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, and Loki. But even with the first batch of Disney+ MCU shows getting ready to launch later this year, the newer heroes that will lead Marvel into its future are getting ready to get started.
First up will be Ms. Marvel, the show focusing on Kamala Khan’s journey into a full-blown superhero. Maybe even a look at her love of Carol Danvers? Regardless of what Ms. Marvel ends up doing with the character, the moment Disney casts Kamala, she has a lot on her plate.
While not a whole lot is known, there’s a lot to pull from the little bit of information. Marvel always keeps us on our toes, so let’s see if we can call their next move.
Where we’ll see Ms. Marvel
While the actress’s first appearance as Kamala will be in Ms. Marvel, the casting call for Ms. Marvel requests a commitment between July 2020 and June 2021 according to Comic Book Resource. Original predictions had Ms. Marvel shooting sometime in late 2020 for about 4-5 months. While no names have been announced, rumors have spread that casting decisions have been made.
But with a nearly year long commitment, this isn’t the only project the future Kamala Khan will be working on. Since Ms. Marvel is a huge fan of Carol Danvers, and Captain Marvel 2 is supposed to film in early 2021, many are theorizing that this actress will make an appearance alongside Brie Larson in the sequel. They may also try to get two seasons filmed back to back, but we like the idea of Kamala getting to fight alongside her idol.
From Hulu writer to Disney+ showrunner
Showrunner Bisha K. Ali is taking on Ms. Marvel for Disney+, bringing the heroine to life. Riding the success of working in the writers room on Hulu’s Four Weddings and a Funeral, Ali will work to bring the character together for her first live-action reappearance.
On the executive producer side, in a jump from past Marvel TV shows, is MCU mastermind Kevin Feige. While he allowed characters to appear on TV on a variety of channels and streaming services, Feige cancelled all those shows to bring some unity to the Marvel TV brand. Now with all Marvel TV shows in one spot, they can make the MCU join together with the TV universe as well.
Ms. Marvel coming out before Loki?
While filming has yet to start on the show, a variety of air dates have been announced. The most recent announcement has Ms. Marvel airing by December 2020 on Disney+. Regardless, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and Wandavision are premiering before it, but Ms. Marvel may come even before Loki at this rate. It just comes down to when filming officially starts for Ms. Marvel, and how long the post-production stage takes.
