‘Riverdale’ season 5: What will our faves look like after the time jump?
Riverdale won’t return until Jan. 2021, but with it comes some pretty big changes. One of which that has fans endlessly speculating on is the time skip. After the first three episodes of season five, Riverdale will see the characters older and (presumably) wiser. Now this is pretty much seen as a good thing by many fans. After all, it was starting to get a bit ridiculous keeping these kids in high school.
Honestly, we’re pretty sure that the writers forgot from time to time that they were in high school. Riverdale season five doing away with this? It’s a huge relief. And it promises some interesting story avenues to travel down as well. Riverdale star Lili Reinhart, however, shared news about the time skip and what to expect out of it.
How long will the Riverdale season five time skip be?
Fans have been speculating for a while about the length of the Riverdale time skip. Many reports place it at five years, skipping over the college years of the high school characters entirely. In an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Reinhart shared that the skip will be about “seven” years.
This’ll put the characters at the same age as their actors, in their mid-twenties. So, hopefully, they’ve graduated college, either found jobs or in grad school, and, for some reason, reunited due to classic Riverdale nonsense. Admittedly, this is a smart move. High school shows always have issues with addressing college years of their characters.
After all, people go to different colleges and grow apart. Sometimes, the issue is solved by placing them all together at the same college. Mostly, though, it makes sense to just skip over college for the Riverdale gang in season five.
Riverdale season five revamp
In the same interview with Fallon, Reinhart expressed her excitement about not playing a teenager on Riverdale anymore. She also said that the creative team behind the scenes are taking the opportunity to “revamp” the series.
“I’m really psyched about it. I think it will be nice to play an adult. But I also really appreciate that Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] our showrunner was like, ‘Yeah, let’s revamp.’ We’re not just stuck in high school for seven seasons.”
Hopefully, part of this revamp includes diversifying the cast a bit more. Vanessa Morgan, who plays Toni Topaz on the series, spoke out about the show’s lack of diversity. Riverdale creators promised to be more mindful of such things in the future. Now is a great time for them to do so, since the show will be revamped.
What will bring the Riverdale crew together in season five?
That’s the question of the hour. Our guess is that it will be a mystery of some sort. Maybe relating to something that went on during the time skip of the series. Riverdale’s first season functioned so well because there was a simple mystery surrounding it that needed solving. Either way, Reinhart and the cast will know sooner than the fans will. Riverdale is set to start production in Vancouver shortly.
Fingers crossed that we’re going to get a nice, lowkey murder mystery in Riverdale season five. It will probably get weird, but, hey, we live in hope.
