Ronnie Ortiz-Magro: Why was the ‘Jersey Shore’ star arrested?
Remember Ronnie Ortiz-Magro from the beloved reality TV show Jersey Shore? The reality star known best for his on-and-off, incredibly toxic relationship with Sammi “the Sweetheart” has had a history of domestic violence and trouble with the law since he became famous. From what we’ve seen on Jersey Shore though, we unfortunately can’t say we’re surprised.
Just recently, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was arrested after allegedly attacking a partner in Los Angeles. During the time, he was with his three-year-old daughter, and he also currently is on probation. Find out all the details about the star here.
Ronnie’s arrest
The thirty-five-year-old ex-reality star was arrested at 11:50 in the morning on Thursday in the Northridge area by the Los Angeles Police Department. A spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department told People that Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was arrested due to suspicion of intimate partner violence with injuries and with priors. The famous celeb was then taken to Van Nuys jail to get booked.
However, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro’s stay in jail turned out to be quite short, as he was released later that very same day on a $100,000 bail. TMZ captured a video of the celebrity being picked up at the police station and taken away in a white Mercedes at around 7:18 pm on Thursday night. Following the star’s arrest, his lawyers have stepped forward to share a statement obtained by TMZ.
Ronnie’s attorney, Scott Leemon told TMZ: “We have just learned of the new allegations against Ronnie and need some additional time to further investigate. As such, we will not be making any other statements at this time”. While this already sounds like bad news for Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, the star has already been in trouble with the law in the past, and this will likely only make his situation worse.
On probation
What puts this reality star in troubled waters is that Ronnie Ortiz-Magro was currently on probation during his arrest on Thursday morning for a similar incident. Back in 2020, he had already agreed to go on probation as part of a plea deal in a previous domestic violence case that involved Jen Harley, an ex-girlfriend whom he shares his three-year-old daughter with.
Last May, the reality star pleaded no contest to one count of domestic battery and one count of resisting arrest according to TMZ. Because of this, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro had to undergo thirty-six months of probation (which he is currently still serving), thirty days of community service, and had to also donate $20,000 to a battered women’s shelter in Los Angeles.
Jen Harley and Ronnie Ortiz-Magro have had a very volatile and complicated dating history in the past, and have time and time again accused one another of both abuse and infidelity. The two have since been in new relationships as of last October, and they officially called it quits in early 2019. However, the two still share a three-year-old daughter by the name of Ariana Sky with each other.
Jen Harley speaks out
Jen Harley had no involvement with the incident that led to Ronnie Ortiz-Magro’s arrest in Los Angeles, but because Ariana Sky was in the picture during this event, Jen Harley had to pick up her daughter after Ronnie was locked up. The mother had apparently been all the way in Las Vegas during that time.
“I want my baby home”, Jen Harley wrote on her Instagram after news broke out about Ronnie’s arrest. In another post shared to her Instagram followers, the ex-girlfriend took a picture of herself holding on to the three-year-old child who stared back into the camera and captioned it with: “Can’t drive home like this, but I’ll hold her as long as she needs it”.
