Megxit: Have Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left royal life forever?
Prince Harry & former Suits actress Meghan Markle has waved goodbye to crowns and hello to a new life in Los Angeles. Ever since their controversial relationship had begun, the couple has had to face a lot of media attention, and not all of it positive. Meghan Markle & Prince Harry decided to part ways from their royal duties and move on with their lives.
Have the former royal couple officially left their duties behind forever? What is Prince Harry & Meghan Markle up to now? Here’s everything you need to know.
Fairytale romance
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle met on a blind date and began dating officially in 2016. Even since the beginning, the press wasn’t forgiving of the couple. A statement was released on behalf of the role stating, “It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. This is not a game – it is her life & his.”
The charming couple went from strength to strength and officially announced their engagement in 2017. A lot of the public were overjoyed, but many were concerned about the upcoming nuptials. “I think both of us were totally surprised by the reaction, after the five to six months we had to ourselves, of what actually happened from then,” Prince Harry had stated in an interview with the BBC.
During the first year of their relationship, Prince Harry & Meghan Markle attended royal duties as any new couple is expected to. To the public, it appeared Prince Harry was following in the footsteps of older brother Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton.
Meghan Markle walked down the aisle in a dress designed by British fashion designer Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of the fashion house Givenchy. Their unconventional wedding took place on May 19th, 2018. Prince Harry & Meghan Markle were officially a royal couple as their wedding was watched by millions around the world.
After what felt like months of back & forth with the media, the couple announced they were expecting their first child. On May 6, 2019, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born and the world watched on. This year, it was announced Prince Harry & Meghan Markle would be resigning from royal duties following years of harsh critique.
Royal affair
Even families have their drama and the royal family is no different. In 2019, it was revealed that Prince Harry & Meghan Markle split from Kensington Palace causing an alleged rift between brothers Prince William & Harry. The couple moves to a new home which has millions of new renovations planned for them.
After the birth of their first child Archie, Prince Harry & Meghan Markle announce they intend to split from their combined charity with the Cambridges, and start their own charity, Sussex Royal.
Meghan Markle appeared to receive a lot of backlash from the British tabloids which may have been the reason they stepped back. In November 2019, the couple announced they’d not be spending Christmas and will holiday in Canada.
A couple of months later, Meghan Markle & Prince Harry announce they intend to step back as senior members of the royal family, and become financially independent, while splitting their time between the UK and North America.
After the backlash from the media, it appears Prince Harry & Meghan Markle will be staying in the U.S. indefinitely and won’t be celebrating Christmas with the royal family again this year. The family is now settled in Los Angeles and has no plans of returning to royal duties anytime soon.
