Has HBO cancelled ‘Succession’? Will season 3 be the show’s last?
Despite a prolonged wait, HBO has announced that Succession will be returning for a third season. Viewers have been waiting ever since the second season’s finale back in 2019 for the series to return. Now, HBO has revealed we won’t have to wait much longer.
Season 3 of Succession is set to premiere on Sunday, October 17th. The nine-episode season will return with everyone’s favorite manipulative family and even some new A-list faces. Also, see why fans can’t stop talking about the third season’s official release date poster.
Season 3 cast & plot description revealed
“Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season 2, Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a perilous position, scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances. Tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war,” HBO revealed in a press release.
Season 3 will see the return of cast members Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Peter Friedman, J. Smith-Cameron, Dagmara Dominczyk, Justine Lupe, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Arian Moayed, Harriet Walter, James Cromwell, Natalie Gold, Juliana Canfield, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Zoë Winters, and Jeannie Berlin.
Meanwhile, an additional cast list includes new faces such as Alexander Skarsgård, Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond, Jihae, Adrien Brody, Hope Davis, and Dasha Nekrasova.
Succession creator Jesse Armstrong, who also serves as showrunner, executive produces with Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy, and Will Ferrell.
The HBO series’ critical acclaim
Season 2 of Succession earned the series seven Emmy awards including Outstanding Drama Series. The show also won the notable award in 2019 for its first season. The Guardian gave the second season five stars and described it as “chilling, despicable and horribly addictive”. They added, “It was clever and vicious. . .watching these people tear each other apart was a fine spectator sport.”
Variety called the second season an improvement on its first. The review read, “The world of the Roy family has opened up, yielding a meaningful understanding not merely of the lust for power but of what that power can do, and what privileges it strips away.”
Succession season 3 dubious poster
As expected, with the new season announcement came a stylish new poster. The new poster features the horrific dysfunctional family as they attempt to move on from the season two finale. With a significant line drawn down the middle, it’s made clear who is on Kendall’s or Logan’s side.
In the release date poster sent to the press, Shiv, Roman, and Connor are on Logan’s side. Meanwhile, Tom and Cousin Greg are right behind Kendall. However, it’s been revealed that this isn’t the only version of the poster unveiled.
In a potential Easter egg, the poster that Succession posted on Twitter is showing us a different narrative. Shiv, Connor, and Cousin Greg are on Kendall’s side, while Roman and Tom are on Logan’s instead.

Even more confusing, another version was posted on Instagram. In this one, Roman and Cousin Greg are on the left with Kendall, while Shiv, Tom, and Connor are standing with Logan on the right.
Strangely, the only person who seems to never switch sides is Cousin Greg. He remains on Kendall’s side throughout each poster variation.
