Tiger Woods news: Why are authorities hiding the truth about his accident?
On February 23rd, Tiger Woods was in a terrible car accident in the Los Angeles area. Thankfully, there’s been no life-threatening injuries, but many are asking the same question: “How did Tiger Woods’s car land up in a ditch?”
According to CBS Sports, Tiger Woods crashed his Genesis GV80 SUV over a median, passed two oncoming lanes and found himself toppled over uprooting a nearby tree. He was suddenly rushed to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for his lower body injuries including his damaged right leg.
However, Woods had no memory of the accident nor of how he got to the hospital. As far as sources say, Woods is allegedly just as confused as we are.
Just an accident
Sky News noted that Tiger Woods has a history of using drugs, in fact, in 2017 he got help for using prescription drugs when he was found “driving under the influence”. Could history be repeating itself?
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department explained that the situation with Tiger Woods’s SUV was indeed “an accident”.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva stated on March 3rd: “The investigators in the accident, or in the collision, they did a search warrant to seize in essence the black box of the vehicle. And that’s all it is. And they’re going to go through it and see if they can find out what was the performance of the vehicle, what was happening at the time of impact. And with that, they’ll have more information they can attribute the cause of the accident. And that’s all it is, and we’ll leave it at that, OK?”
Case closed?
In an interview with USA Today, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputy John Schloegl explained: “if somebody is involved in a traffic collision, we’ve got to reconstruct the traffic collision, if there was any reckless driving, if somebody was on their cell phone or something like that. We determine if there was a crime. If there was no crime, we close out the case, and it was a regular traffic collision.”
Sky News noted that the professional golfer has suffered a number of injuries but is stable in Florida and will make a recovery. And now the investigation is finally coming to a close a month later.
Recently, Sheriff Villanueva told the public: “We have reached out to Tiger Woods and his personnel. There’s some privacy issues on releasing information on the investigation, so we’re going to ask them if they waive the privacy and then we will be able to do a full release on all the information regarding the accident.
The Sheriff indicated that a warrant was made for the data recorder in Woods’s SUV, and that they’ve got “everything” they need. “It’s completed, signed, sealed and delivered. However, we can’t release it without the permission of the people involved in the collision”, Villanueva added.
Cause still unknown
However, the public is not buying it. In fact, a professor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a retired New York City Police Department sergeant was horrified by the Sheriff’s statement and claimed: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a department ever ask for permission like that . . . What happens if his lawyers say ‘no, you can’t send it out now.’ And then where does that leave us?”
Per USA Today, forensic experts suggested that based on the evidence Tiger Woods was likely “not conscious” when the accident began. Like an accident reconstruction expert and former police detective who has walked through the scene and recalled: “like a classic case of falling asleep behind the wheel, because the road curves and his vehicle goes straight.”
Until we hear any more news from the Los Angeles County Department, we won’t know if Tiger Woods was driving under the influence, or if he was just “asleep behind the wheel”. Either way, it should be noted that there was “no skid marks on the road” nor were there any “signs of impairment by Tiger Woods on the day of the car accident.
