Can UFOs be real even if aliens aren’t? Dive deeper into the reports
Fun fact: according to Steinar Ellefmo, an Associate Professor in NTNU’s Department of Geology and Mineral Resources Engineering, “There are large unexplored ocean areas, and there is an enormous amount we do not know about them. We actually know more about the moon than the seafloor.” Heck, we’ve been to the moon more than the Mariana Trench!
The trench is shaped like a crescent moon and holds the deepest known regions of Earth, housing active mud volcanoes and life that probably can’t even imagine the sun. Needless to say, there’s still so much to learn about our own world.
When it comes to anything pertaining to another world, we must take their possibilities with a grain of salt. We only know one kind of life — earth life. The ways of life in our home could be more complex than we thought so what does that say about life elsewhere?
We’ll never rule out aliens. The probability is far too strong but what about all these sightings of mysterious objects? Sometimes, we find ourselves wondering — are UFOs more than settings of science fiction? Okay, suppose UFOs are real. Does that mean aliens are too? UFOs have always implied that aliens exist but do they really?
Aliens
For several decades, maybe a century or two, humanity has pondered on when — when is the time going to come when we make contact with alien life for the first time? What’s going to happen to our society? Chances are, we’ll fall for a little bit. But will we get back on our feet? Will alien life be good for us? Will we live together like Futurama? Or will they try to destroy us?
Maybe, we really are one of a kind, like weeds growing in sidewalks. What are the odds that aliens really exist? An astronomer, David Kipping has determined their odds. From the Cool Worlds Laboratory at Columbia University.
To summarize, their researchers basically calculated “a seventy-five percent probability of life and sixty percent likelihood of intelligence, for an overall probability of forty-five percent.” While the chances of their existence seem very likely, there’s still that sweet or fatal day when we’ll actually see them. But for now, we’ll still have to wait.
A report released by the Director of National Intelligence, said they found no evidence of aliens but acknowledged that one-hundred forty three reports of “unidentified aerial phenomena” since 2004 that could not be explained.
Some of the most prominent cases documented Navy pilots seeing and filming the strange objects off the East Coast of the U.S. over a period of months in 2014 and 2015.
Rise in sightings
Some pilots have said they’ve witnessed the mystery objects move with exceptional speed, agility and acceleration that had never been seen before. Some of the objects were seen traveling underwater.
These aren’t internet conspiracy theorists who spend the entirety of their days on the computer, eating junk food or stereotypical stoners getting their fix in their mother’s basement. These people are scientists and their reports were mandated by Congress. They’re attributed to an increased interest of government officials to openly discuss UFOs. What’s probably most intriguing though, are the recent rise of such sightings.
Many of the sightings we’ve been discussing date to just the past couple of years. The Air Force and Navy have only recently established formal procedures for reporting these incidents.
The report of the 2014 to 15 sightings documented that, “The limited amount of high-quality reporting on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) hampers our ability to draw firm conclusions.” The reports seem to provide merely possibilities but not answers.
After all, these objects could be a part of our own government or military, doing some secret project. Perhaps a program from another country such as China or Russia with more intricate aerial technology.
The Zoo Theory
One noteworthy possibility is that it’s us who have not discovered extraterrestrial life. Meaning, we can’t find them, but they not only can but have already found us. Today’s technology might be advanced to us but chances are, it won’t be in the future.
We’ll experience things we can’t possibly visualize now. Imagine telling peasants in the Bronze Age that you can watch 3-D movies, get hot pizza rushed to you on demand, and take a road trip while listening to history and true crime podcasts. There’s nothing about those things anyone from the Bronze Age could comprehend. One day, our technology will be primitive, but what if it already is?
That’s the “zoo” theory that may explain why we haven’t made contact with aliens yet.
We’ve already established that the infinite size of the universe and its age tells us, it’s very unlikely we’re alone. But just because we haven’t found anyone, doesn’t mean they haven’t found us. Imagine somebody washing their dishes at night, by their window. They might not see anybody while they look out their window but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone out there, sneaking around in their backyard.
In 1973, MIT researcher John Ball hypothesized that aliens could be observing us like animals in a zoo. Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence (METI) is a group made up of scientists and is known for exploring this theory.
Could aliens really be observing us like a society of ants? And if so, what are they looking for? What if these recent sightings are really technology they use to capture us like art but their technology is malfunctioning?

Could UFOs be real even if aliens aren’t? Are aliens a reality and there’s a reason we haven’t made contact with them, besides our still primitive technology? Clearly, there’s still more questions than answers. What questions or possible answers do you have? Let us know in the comments!
