Is Gigi Hadid’s mom Yolanda a racist?
The Zquad is up-in-arms as their fave Zayn Malik continues to deal with assault charges from Gigi Hadid’s mom, Yolanda. Malik allegedly attacked Yolanda in the Pennsylvania home he’s been sharing with Gigi.
Malik has recently pleaded no contest to the charges. However, fans can’t help giving Gigi Hadid’s mom a side-eye since she’s already been accused of racism. This being yet another accusation of racism thrown her way doesn’t help her cause.
Some would argue Yolanda’s behavior toward Zayn supports those accusations against her. Yet, others would argue her marriage to Palestinian Muslim Mohamed Hadid completely contradicts them. Is Yolanda a racist or simply misunderstood?
Family drama
Gigi Hadid & Zayn Malik have been the very definition of an on-again/off-again relationship since November 2015. Even her mom’s antagonistic relationship with Malik seemed typical of these types of situations.
In September 2020, though, Hadid gave birth to their daughter Khai. Many assumed it would elevate her relationship with Zayn to something more permanent – like marriage. Instead, the relationship permanently ended a year after Khai was born.
In July 2021, Gigi Hadid told Harper’s Bazaar Malik had acclimated to their family dynamic. He was struggling to get a word in on arguments until he just started taking her mom’s side. Three months later, however, it all went wrong.
Zayn vs. Yolanda
By September 2021, Gigi Hadid’s mom was accusing Malik of physical assault. Yolanda maintains Malik caused her mental & physical harm by pushing her into a dresser. She went on to accuse him of calling her “a Dutch slut” & telling her to stay away from Khai.
The alleged altercation started when Yolanda posted a picture of Khai on her Instagram, which she later claimed was an accident. Malik is intensely protective of his child & saw this move as potentially threatening her safety.
Whether or not the twenty-eight-year-old assaulted her is unclear. What’s also unclear is whether or not Yolanda’s behavior toward Malik was an act of racism. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time she’d been accused.
Real racism
E! Network’s Real Housewives series is no stranger to drama. In fact, drama thrives among the glamorous wives of the rich & famous. Yolanda Hadid found herself in the middle of a couple of scandals while on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Fans were stunned when Lisa Rinna recently accused Lisa Vanderpump of causing Rinna’s fallout with Gigi Hadid’s mom. However, Yolanda landed in hot water while supposedly helping Gigi with her makeup.

Gigi is getting ready for a show when Yolanda decides to give a “helpful” tip to the makeup artist. The tip? Round out Gigi’s eyes so she doesn’t “look Chinese”. Yikes! Yolanda might not be racist, but comments like these certainly don’t help.
Not guilty?
In October, Malik pleaded no contest after being charged with four counts of harassment after allegedly assaulting Gigi Hadid’s mom. Little evidence of an actual altercation has been provided to the public.
Gigi wasn’t present for the alleged assault. However, Gigi & Malik have been active on their social media to share their part of the story. Malik took to Twitter to defend himself and ask for privacy. Gigi simply posted edited photos on IG, including faceless – but no less adorable – appearances from Khai.
Even Zayn’s sister, Waliyha, caused a bit of her own scandal on IG. Waliyha posted many pictures, but people were shocked by the captions. In one, she promises karma will befall those who do wrong.
This may not prove Gigi Hadid’s mom is racist. Yet, it does prove her willingness to attack the father of her own granddaughter. Coupled with Yolanda’s more questionable critiques about Gigi looking Chinese, it doesn’t look good for her.
