This ‘Black-ish’ cast member gets the latest spinoff nobody asked for
Black-ish is one of ABC’s most successful comedies. Starring Anthony Anderson, Black-ish is coming up on its seventh season and the Black-ish franchise has continued to expand. Black-ish already has two spinoff series that expand the stories of its characters.
Now the third spinoff of Black-ish is coming to ABC. Here’s the skinny on the upcoming series and the other spinoffs that it will be joining.
Grown-ish
Grown-ish follows the oldest daughter of the Johnson family, Zoey (Yara Shahidi) who is now going off to college. The show explores how her character deals with adult issues while still balancing college life.
Grown-ish is on Freeform and was recently greenlit a fourth season for the show.
Mixed-ish
Mixed-ish is a prequel series about Tracee Ellis Ross’s character, Rainbow, who is growing up in a mixed-race family in the 80s. It explores ideas of identity & assimilation as Rainbow and her family try to figure out who they are when society can’t decide where they belong either.
Reviews for Mixed-ish are good, but it’s unconfirmed whether the show will be getting a season two or not. Mixed-ish is on ABC and is a solid comedy for fans of Black-ish.
Old-ish
Old-ish is the newest spinoff series to be added to the Black-ish franchise. Old-ish will follow Dre Johnson’s (Anthony Anderson) parents, played by Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis, as they reconnect and try to make love work again.
Old-ish will follow the couple as they move to a “rapidly gentrifying neighborhood” in Los Angeles. They’ll meet old & new faces who represent the community as they try to make their marriage work.
Fishburne & Lewis had great chemistry with one another when they appeared together on Black-ish. Focusing on their romance & marriage within a new setting should provide a refreshing twist for the Black-ish series.
