Celebrity sightings: These stars claim they’ve seen real UFOs
So many stars in the sky, so many galaxies in the universe. Is it any wonder so many of our earthly stars keep their eyes on the sky – and see UFOs?
Over the years, a number of entertainment celebrities have claimed to have seen UFOs. These UFO stories have captured our imagination and made us feel we know them a little better. That’s not to say the sightings are all real, several have been proven to hoaxes, publicity stunts, or lighting flukes. However, it does give us cause to wonder – are we truly alone?
Here are a few celebrities who have had their own close encounters.
David Bowie
From his classic song “Life on Mars?” to starring in the movie The Man Who Fell to Earth, Bowie’s work long reflected his fascination with space, stars, & extraterrestrials. Bowie claimed to have seen genuine UFOs many times.
According to Paul Trynka’s Bowie biography Starman, Bowie’s girlfriend at the time invited him to weekly UFO-spotting meditation evenings. “We hoped the flying saucers would come & take us away,” says Jeff Dexter, a fellow cosmic traveller present at those sessions. “We did see UFOs – absolutely.”
Creem writer Bruno Stein overheard Bowie telling a UFOlogist in 1975, “I made sightings six, seven times a night for about a year when I was in the observatory. We had regular cruises that came over . . . they would be stationary for about half an hour, and then after verifying what they’d been doing that day, they’d shoot off.”
Post Malone
“Circles” rapper Post Malone said in an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience in July 2020 that he has seen UFOs in New York, Utah & California over the years. Malone recalled the first time he allegedly saw an unexplained aerial phenomenon in New York – when he was sixteen – during the podcast.
Malone stated, “I’ve seen one. I was probably sixteen. I was in upstate New York and it would just stay there. Let me precursor [sic] this; my aunt & uncle were very strict, and we had to go to bed at a very strict deadline, probably ten pm. I was looking out the window with my cousin and it’s just a light that just stays there and then just f*****’ goes off . . . I mean, you can’t explain it.”
Malone, now twenty–five, went on to have sightings in Southern California & Utah, his current home, more recently, “I used to live in Tarzana . . . It looked kind of like – it sounds corny – but like a classic forcefield . . . it’s kind of like a dome in a circular shape. In Tarzana, looking down at the ****** city. And I’m like, ‘How did no one else see this?’ But I was there with like f*****’ four other people, and they saw it too.”
Olivia Newton-John
Singer & actor, Olivia Newton-John encountered a UFO when she was a teenager. The seventy-one year old Grease star described how she saw a silver object flying through the sky when she was fifteen. She recalls, “I have seen one when I was very young. It was unidentified and it was flying.”
The actress remarked that in England, many people think UFOs are now a possibility, “Twenty years ago, how many people would have thought that?”
Muhammad Ali
One of the most celebrated boxers of all time, Muhammad Ali saw no less than sixteen UFOs throughout his lifetime. In one incident, Ali saw two UFOs outside of New York City. “I happened to look up just before dawn, as I often do while running, and there hovering above us was this brilliant light hanging as if by an invisible thread.”
“At first I thought it was a beacon projected from a helicopter,” Ali recalled. “But moments later a similar object passed in front of us.”
“The closest one [UFO encounter] happened when a cigar-shaped ship hovered over a car I was a passenger in one night, driving north on the New Jersey turnpike,” Ali explained in the 2015 book Amazing Flying Saucer Experiences of Celebrities. “What a sight that was. We could see the shadow made by the UFO as it passed over the pavement of the road in the light of the full moon.”
Mick Jagger
In 1968, Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger went on a camping trip to Glastonbury with his girlfriend, Marianne Faithfull, where they both saw a luminous, cigar-shaped UFO. Around the same time Jagger had a UFO detector installed in his home. The alarm kept going off when he wasn’t home indicating a strong magnetic field somewhere nearby.
Then in 1969, on the same night as the band played the infamous Altamont Speedway Free Festival, Jagger saw a UFO while he was performing on stage.
Kurt Russell
One evening, actor Kurt Russell was piloting a small plane onto a Phoenix airport runway when he saw a bank of lights in the shape of a triangle nearby. Years later, his partner Goldie Hawn was watching a television report on UFO sightings which featured “the Phoenix Lights”. Russell exclaimed to Hawn, “Wait a minute, that’s the night I was landing in Phoenix!”
Every UFO obsessive knows about the Phoenix Lights, a mass sighting that took place in 1997. As it turns out, Kurt Russell was the pilot who first reported what has since become one of the best-known UFO incidents.“I was flying [his son Oliver] to go see his girlfriend, and we were on approach,” Russell explained.
“I saw six lights over the airport in absolute uniform in a V shape. Oliver said to me – I was just looking at him, I was coming in, we’re maybe a half a mile out – and Oliver said, ‘Pa, what are those lights?’ Then I kind of came out of my reverie and I said, ‘I don’t know what they are,’” Russell recalled, “‘Are we okay here?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna call in,’ and I reported it.”
