It’s hard to believe we’re already in December. 2020 is almost over, but it’s also the most festive time of the year. The holidays are here. This means stores, streets, and homes are decked out with elaborate decorations and jolly tunes play in the background wherever you go.
To get into the holiday spirit, there are dozens of family-friendly holiday movies on Netflix. While there are some films there that are too mature for younger crowds, there are plenty of options that the whole family can enjoy.
Even though some of these films might seem to be just for kids, no one should pass up a wholesome family movie. With their cheery music, happy endings, and valuable life lessons, the best holiday movies have something for everyone. Here are some of our favorites.
The Christmas Chronicles (Rated TV-PG)
Kurt Russell stars as a charismatic Santa Claus in this exciting, action-filled holiday film. The Christmas Chronicles, a Netflix original, follows the story of a brother & sister duo who try to capture Santa. When their plan doesn’t go through, they team up with Santa and the elves to save Christmas. When you finish watching this film, there’s a sequel that came out last month you & your family can enjoy.
The Christmas Project (Rated TV-PG)
Travel back in time a few decades with this heartfelt film that takes place in the 1980s. The Christmas Project is a Christmastime story of four brothers who want revenge on the meanest bullies at their school. But then they learn what being kind can do.
The Grinch (Rated PG)
Dr. Seuss’s The Grinch is an animated film released in 2018. There have been several adaptations of the famous Grinch story in recent years, and this movie tells the tale with modern, cute animations. It’s practically the same plot as the original story, but it’s a unique version to watch nonetheless!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Rated PG)
That’s right, the Christmas classic released two decades ago is available to stream right now on Netflix. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is a family comedy starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch who wanted to steal Christmas from Whoville.
Holiday Rush (Rated TV-PG)
Holiday Rush is a Netflix original about the heartwarming story of a widowed radio DJ and his four children. When he loses his job, the family has to maneuver through a new lifestyle that’s not as luxurious as they’re used to. They learn that happiness is about family, not material wealth.
Christmas Break-In (Rated TV-PG)
Christmas Break-In follows the story of a girl named Izzy who gets trapped in her school in a snowstorm after her parents are late picking her up. Three robbers break in and hold the janitor hostage. It’s up to Izzy to save the day.
Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (Rated PG)
For fans of musicals, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey should be at the top of your list. This is a song-filled film about a betrayed toymaker who finds hope when his granddaughter comes along.
The Princess Switch (Rated TV-G)
The Princess Switch is a Christmastime film starring Vanessa Hudgens. In this story, an ordinary girl from Chicago switches lives with her look-alike, the Duchess of Montenaro. If you like this one, The Princess Switch: Switched Again is also available on Netflix.
The Holiday Calendar (Rated TV-G)
Have you ever wished you could predict the future? That’s what happens to the protagonist in The Holiday Calendar. This film is about a photographer who receives an antique Advent calendar from a family member. Each item in the calendar seems to predict a certain event that happens in her life. For fans of romance and heartfelt movies, this one’s for you.
