Kanye 2020? Will his marriage to Kim Kardashian survive the campaign?
Kanye West & Kim Kardashian have been going through difficult times lately. After six years of marriage, the couple is facing a lot of difficulties. With Kanye’s new political career, things aren’t going to start getting easier any time soon.
Now that Kanye is running for office, there’s a real possibility of him becoming the next US President – meaning Kim K would be First Lady! Presidency would really test their strength as a couple. Are Kim & Kanye ready to survive the elections? Here’s what we know about the couple’s life lately.
Divorce announcement
On July 21st, Kanye announced through a series of tweets he was divorcing Kim Kardashian. He even went as far as attacking his mother-in-law, calling her “Kris Jong-Un”.
In the tweets, Kanye claimed he’d been trying to divorce Kim for a year and mentioned that Kim had been trying to register him at a mental facility. Four days later, Kanye apologized to Kim publicly.
Some speculated his apology wasn’t about the tweets discussing divorce with Kim, but about making other information public. During a rally for his campaign, Kanye West talked about discussing abortion with Kim when they were expecting their first child.
Kanye’s mental health
After the tweets, many waited for Kim to broach the subject of her husband’s public revelations. Finally, Kardashian posted on Instagram addressing Kanye’s behavior. Her now-deleted post reads: “As many of you know, Kanye has bipolar disorder. Anyone who has this or has a loved one in their life who does, knows how incredibly complicated and painful it is to understand.
“I’ve never spoken publicly about how this affected us at home because I am very protective of our children and Kanye’s right to privacy when it comes to his health. But today, I feel like I should comment on it because of the stigma and misconceptions about mental health.”
Kanye West had not been diagnosed until he was thirty-nine – only four years ago. He was first diagnosed after a medical emergency which caused him to cancel a tour. Kim said Kanye refuses to take medication “because it changes who he is”.
Recent retreat
Kim & Kanye recently went on vacation with their kids to reconnect with each other. Kanye reported feeling better after their trips, which were centered around the kids. Kanye claims to feel creatively inspired now. Apparently, the family vacation was free of political talk. However, this doesn’t mean Kanye’s dropping his campaign.

Kanye’s presidential campaign hasn’t gone smoothly. His career change started just last month; he managed to make it to the ballot in three states. Because of how late his campaign started, he had already missed the deadline to appear on the ballets in six other states.
At the beginning of August, Kanye also missed the deadline for the majority of states. Although he tried to appear on his hometown’s ballot, New Jersey didn’t accept the request. Furthermore, he isn’t going to appear on Illinois’s ballot either since many of the signatures collected for candidacy have been invalidated. So far, it doesn’t look like Kanye can make it to the presidency just with three states.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been accused of supporting Kanye’s campaign in an effort to reduce the number of votes for Biden. Kim Kardashian has meanwhile publicly supported her husband’s campaign. If Kanye manages to continue, it’ll require a lot of work – both to get his career going and maintain his marriage.
