Experience Sora’s story in ‘Kingdom Hearts’: How it’s coming to PC
Kingdom Hearts, just hearing that name whips up all sorts of nostalgia in the mind of Millennials the world over. Beginning in 2002, the franchise follows our hero, Sora, as he journeys through different worlds with his friends, Donald & Goofy, in order to fight against Xheanort. The franchise has been going strong in different iterations, with the most recent release, Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, dropping on Nov. 2020.
Technically, Sora’s story concluded in 2019 with the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III. Now, PC gamers will be able to get Kingdom Hearts on their preferred gaming platform for the first time. The series will be available on Epic Games Store exclusively on March 30. Here’s everything you need to know about Kingdom Hearts PC debut and what to expect from it.
What is included?
Basically, all of Sora’s Kingdom Hearts adventures are going to be available for purchase with Epic Games Store. According to The Verge, the available titles are: “Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix — enhanced versions of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 — Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory”.
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 +2.5 Remix will be available for $49.99 USD while the other titles will be available for $59.99 USD. And, presumably, future stories that creator Testuya Nomura teased for the franchise will also be available through Epic Games Store as well when they are released.
Why has it taken so long for PCs to get it?
Kingdom Hearts is a very interesting game in terms of availability on platforms. Sora’s adventures through the franchise are usually divided between Playstation & Nintendo. Playstation has the main games of the franchise, while Nintendo had handheld games & mobile under the franchise title. Kingdom Hearts III was a multi-platform release along with being the series’ debut for Xbox.
Despite this, none of the games have been released for PC gaming. An oversight that will be corrected with this available release on March 30, 2021. So that will be a nice way to get into Spring, you know? Play a little bit of Kingdom Hearts on your PC? It sounds good on our end at least.
And if you want to pre-order? Good news! Pre-order is available right now on Epic Games Store for the various Kingdom Hearts games right now. So if you want to head into playing as Sora ASAP? Then this is probably the best way to get it done. After that? All you have to do is wait until March.
Should I check it out?
Kingdom Hearts, on the surface, seems to be a relatively simple story. You play as Sora, an ordinary youth who is thrust into greatness upon finding the Keyblade. He travels worlds with Donald Duck & Goofy, emissaries of King Mickey, while fighting against the Heartless and their big boss, who wants to consume worlds into Darkness. It combines Square Enix characters, Final Fantasy, and Disney into something that is complex.
Like complex enough that you may need a guide to get through everything in terms of lore & overarching story, but, for fans of the franchise, Kingdom Hearts is a pretty epic saga, full of a lot of heart. It usually appears, in some form, on Best Games list. So if you’re a PC gamer that wants to see what the hype is about? Then suit up as Sora and dive into the world.
